But he created me. Created sin. Created my surroundings and knows everything that was going to effect me and result in me becoming an Atheist. Yet he still thinks its fair to then send me to hell. Sounds like a twat if you ask me.

A rational explanation for hell?

Here's the thing skipper, and I hate to be the one to break it, its not about you.
"but he created ME" "created MY surroundings" "ME being atheist" "ME going to hell" God's greatest concern is His own glory and it's appropriate because of who and what He is. He's not really worried about whether or not that rains on your parade or not... That being said, if you want to join the program then seek His face. If you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you.
I was using me as an example, it can and should be applied to anyone. He created everything, knows everything that's going to happen, knows at birth the people who will not believe in him...knows at birth who and how their going to sin. Ridculous for him to then send them to hell if you ask me.
If there was a god, I think it's ridiculous to assume your view of him is correct, a new level of arrogance to assume his greatest concern is his own glory...If I was all powerful, eternal and all knowing I think a bit of humility might also be able to be achieved.
Skipper,
It's not possible to blame God for making you an atheist, because that wouldn't make you an atheist anymore, would it? He gave you a choice to believe or not to believe. It might appear to be irrational for God to keep disbelievers in Hell for eternity. On the other hand, I think it's equally irrational to disbelieve in Him just for that reason, especially if you know that there is a slightest chance of Hell existing. So, I think it balances out in the end pretty nicely. If you're going to be irrational in your beliefs then He's going to be irrational with you also. And by rejecting the idea of Hell, you have also rejected the greatness of God's punishment, so that's why He's going to prove to you that you're wrong by actually giving you what you disbelieved in (since you want proof so badly). And once you're in Hell then it's too late to do anything. So it's better to start believing right now while you're still alive. If there was no Hell, then no one would care about religion and people could do whatever they want, but still go to Heaven. Then there wouldn't be any purpose in telling us to worship Him and do good deeds because there is nothing to struggle for if everyone goes to Paradise. Also, remember that God can forgive almost any sin if you repent to Him sincerely. He is more merciful to the believers. RE: A rational explanation for hell?

If you choose to treat God as something unworthy (even to the point of not acknowleding His existance) all the days of your life then you will be despised when you cross over. Is this humble enough for you? Another thing is His own glory just happens to be the best possible thing for those that love Him. Whats the greatest thing God can give you? It is Himself, marvelous revelation after revelation of Himself. And thats what Heaven is all about and thats why most people wouldnt want to go there in the first place. Think about it. If heaven is all about worshiping and glorying in God and your not doing that now why would you want to after your dead? I submit to you that Hell is locked from the inside. The god you two describe as a god of eternal punishment for the simple fact of not believing is a dick. Enjoy heaven im going to be rocking it up with the devil, he seems a lot more reasonable.
Im sure youll have a blast

Quote:All reality is caused and held together by this maximum.Big claim there. Got anything to back it up with? Quote:Sin is a horrid thing. I see this image of a man suspended in air, completely surrounded by the presense of God, kicking, struggling, screaming his lungs out in protest. He wants to go his own way and nothing is going to stop him. Its like a man in the hospital tearing at the cords to the life support system.Very strange point of view you have, one I would expect to see in a child not an adult. Your reasoning isn't very sound. Quote:The reason men go to hell is cause and effect.Does thought's or lack therof count as a cause? A victemless cause at that. You've failed to give a valid reason for hell. Quote:the hatrid and wrath being manisfest to those who despised Him all the days of their lives. Please exlain how you can despise something you don't even believe exists? I don't despise god, I don't believe in god. Big differance mate. Your god, your hell, you burn in it.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity. Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist. You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them. RE: A rational explanation for hell?
