No amount of checks and balances can function for long unless sufficient portion of those with influence are engaged, educated and recognizes a vital stake in the continued functioning of the checks and balances.  Republicans do not recognize any stake in any checks and balances that could temporarily inconvenience their immediate agenda.   At least 48% of American voters are idiotic yet self important yokels profoundly resistant to education and knowledge and yet steeped in the toxic tradition of always having the highest estimates of their own flaky impulses and make beliefs, which the republican feel no hesitation whatsoever to exploit to the utmost extent.

So don't congratulate yourselves if habitual checks and balances appear to work once or twice.  It will not keep working for long in the current America.

If you don't want the other side to run all over you, then be prepared for escalate and make it clear your tolerance for pain, willingness to inflict pain, and endurance are all much greater than theirs.

The younger adults in America are often well informed as to political issues. Unfortunately there are far too many people who believe fake facts like "Obamacare has death panels" "Illegal immigrants commit rape and murder."

I don't know if most of us are ill informed but it's way too many.

I would remind you, however, that Clinton did win the popular vote.

Hitler won an election.

Dewey lost one.

Ortega even managed to lose an election.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

No, hitler didn't win any election to be chancellor. He was appointed by Hindenburg. But there are many parallels between the behavior of hitler and those of trump during the first period after gaining power. These include a palpable contempt for competent professionalism in government, vocal contempt for independent judiciary, theatrical contempt for independent press, surrounding himself with loyal party hacks, and ruling through channels other than the formal administrative apparatus.

What.... Hitler rised to power because of the state Germany was left in after WW1.
He knew people were suffering and wanted to rebuild Germany ironically speaking he was great leader knew how speak to people
and most of his social programs are used around the world. So he knew how people was feeling because you know the state of the German economy was in  After WW1
he blamed the jews and well you know where goes from. He knew how to talk people there was election he was just some ordinary average guy and talented artist.

My favourite anecdote of the Dewey-Truman election:

On election night of 1948, with all indicators showing in his favour, Thomas Dewey asked his wife "Say, Frances, how does it feel to be sleeping with the next president of the United States?"

She replied, "It's a great honour and frankly, I'm looking forward to it!"

Next morning, over a particularly quiet breakfast, she asked "Well, Tom, am I going to Washington or is Frank coming here?"
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I seriously don't get why people equate the way Trump talks like he's explaining his point of view to a five year old with telling the truth.

He talks like a five year old, ok? not like he is a big guy talking to a five year old, ok?

You may be right but what I mean is he talks in simple sentences with simple words. Definitely the way he leaves words out and talks in a stream of consciousness way is more how a five year old talks.

Step one: Create a crisis that you can use to gain more power
Step two: Manoeuvre behind the scenes to gain allies and influence
Step Three: Create a larger crisis to gain more powers while finding a scapegoat to rally the people around
Step four: Publicly denounce the scapegoat
Step Five: Wipe Out the Jedi
Step Six: Declare your intentions while moving your supporters into positions of power
Step Seven: Eliminate and/or discredit all forms of opposition
Step Eight (Optional): Get taken out by a close ally/be removed from power by suspiciously good looking and mostly white group of heroes.

Just remember: The wages of sin are death, but the hours are good and there are many perks.
