What is Atheism?

Both are atheism.

Some would say atheism is the belief that there is no God and saying otherwise is trying to get rid of any burden of proof. Of course, you know exactly who says that.

Judging by the results of your poll, no one here.

I was sure someone chose "the belief that there is no god" but after checking a little later it wasn't there anymore. Yeah, I remember it very clear, the vote was split 50/50, with 1 person for each side. That was in the beginning.

A very few atheists will posit that as the base definition of atheism. Usually it's theists or people claiming to be "just agnostic" (whatever that means) who argue for that definition because they want to shove some burden of proof on atheists that we aren't actually responsible for at a base level.

I just assumed that it was probably a theist strolling through different threads.

It seems they aren't particularly attracted to my thread on theists explaining their reasoning.

Religion is not based on scientific proof.
It is based on faith.

Ask them faith based questions.... Apples and oranges.
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

So, it is a waste of time to ask a religious person to demonstrate that their god exists?

True, you cannot use scientific proof to justify religion, but you can attempt to construct philosophical arguments to demonstrate their religion.

Oh wait, you are an ignostic...

Religion is not the one that needs proving ...it exists 100%.
It is the principal contents of religions which have no basis other than hope and faith.

Ignostic just means I don't understand the question.
Belief in god? Please describe what it is I am supposed to have belief in?
Every theist gives you a different answer because every theist has a personal relationship with their personal god...

You know, the one in their head....
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

Sorry, was this directed at me? If so, I don't know why you'd be surprised at my claim; you do know me.

And yes, I know that my antitheistic position towards the Abrahamic gods is a claim and carries with it a burden. I can meet mine; Judaian, Christian, Islamic or free-format.

RE: What is Atheism?
I suppose I would admit to holding the same bias against the likelihood that that God exists in the form they think it does. But I don't doubt that it exists for them in the way other subjective phenomena exist for everyone. I don't think they're just pretending but I also don't think there is any chance whatsoever that there is actually one being in charge of everything who created it just the way it is and then had bible written as a contract with his people. That's just silly. Do I incur a debt for believing this way? Regardless, I can't be bothered.
