RE: Political Dream Team
I'm not well read (yet). Russell's work turned me into an atheist. In regards to atheism, I've only read Russell and Dawkins, so that is why they are on the list. I love Austrian economics, which is why Mises is my Treasury secretary. I couldn't think of a vice fearless leader, and Harris, whom a friend of mine (he just bought "The Moral Landscape") told me is legit, filled the void, no pun intended. Lol. Tongue

haha I was just wondering if it was for the same reasons as I thought about, I was close to having him on the list, he seems like he would make a really good politician.

Bertrand is bad-ass!

RE: Political Dream Team
What are the reasons you were going to consider Harris? As I stated, I know nothing about him except that a friend told me he is legit.

Eight months ago, or so, a Christian friend and I (I was also Christian at the time) were discussing some religious stuff, and I asked him about evil and God (the Holocaust in particular). The question of how the universe being created by a loving God can have evil just arose in my mind a few days prior. And he, who is the most intelligent Christian I know, said that the Holocaust is justified because the Jews will forgive the Nazis in heaven and the Nazis will feel bad, and this exchange will be beautiful. No joke, that is what he said.

That idea didn't fly with me. I looked up prominent agnostic / atheist philosophers on google and Russell was the one whom I decided to read. I bought the book (collection of his speeches/ writings) called "Why I am not a Christian," and he persuaded me to become an atheist.

As you said, Russell is a bad ass. Lol. Tongue

RE: Political Dream Team
He is charismatic, polite, appropriately aggressive and passionate when needed, values logic and reason\, well spoken, empathetic etc. I don't agree with him more than probably 70% of the time, the moral landscape wasn't great imo because of a few fatal flaws, but he'd make a good politician anyway. He seems really concerned with Ethics, so you could likely trust him as much as any politician ever.

"Why I am not a Christian" is 12 pages of comprehensive ass whoopin. You should real "On Agnosticism" for another short one, or "analysis of mind" if you feel like 300+ pages .

This is the "Why I am not a Christian" that I am referring to. http://www.amazon.com/Christian-Essays-R...0671203231

It is over two hundred pages of his writings. The actual "Why I am not a Christian" speech/article is exactly as you stated - ass whoopin. Lol. Tongue

I am most certainly interested in reading more Russell. Big Grin

That's a really cheap collection, I'll have to buy it. I've got most of the e-books because they are now free from many sources, would love a physical copy.

I enjoy having an actual tangible copy of a book. It makes me feel...intelligent even though I am not. Lol. Tongue
