Ba dum cha! Crap, my mom would roll her eyes at that joke and smile too.

If I cared I could find the date and the clippings. But I'm not going into that jungle of boxes.

ETA: Some would say I bear more than a passing resemblance to Gojira as well. Just jealous, those.

Mt. Etna is beautiful, snow covered peaks, the mountain chugging ash and smoke constantly. I remember the glowing red, flowing rivers of lava at night when I lived there. Never seen anything like it since.

I am not saying it isn't beautiful, I am saying it is a volcano. The moon and stars in a calm night time sky are awesome to look at, but space is no place humans can live. You can't go up in orbit and take your helmet off, that would kill you. I simply don't want to be near certain parts of nature, volcanos are very beautiful to look at, so are tigers and sharks, but again, doesn't mean I want to be close to them.

Yep, awesome sight. We sent volunteers up to help fight the forest fires that broke out when the lava was flowing. Bit futile but a way to do something.

Had someone telling that this is the year of the fire rooster and so volcanoes and earthquakes would be a thing. Sort of dreading the inevitable tide of woo (Wu?) thats about to hit me...

When I was in college long, long ago, there was a gunman in a high rise apartment building near the student union. THOUSANDS of people crowded the street surrounding the building, apparently to see what was going on. Had there been any shooting from the building into the crowd, the shooter could have scarcely missed. And any shooting like that could have stampeded the crowd, and probably killed a large number more.

Situation was resolved peacefully, but the responding law enforcement folks were stroking out over the danger to the crowd.

Heinlein's Moon is a Harsh Mistress had picnickers crowding the sites were the lunar freedom fighters were aiming their 100 ton projectiles. Seems plausible enough to me . . . .

Nope, Japanese house builders have experience with quakes.

If I ever encounter a bear on one of my back-country hikes, I hope that cameraman is with me...
