Well you are getting very good. If you ever get a wild hair check out the Photos You Shot of Nature and Natural Settings and Share Non-Nature Photos You Shot threads in Hobbies and Photos at the .com forum. Buckster and PR126 post some great stuff there. Buck in particular does some spectacular stuff with color and light that really make his photos pop.

I set myself up to catch the lens flare, but that's what it's like in the forests down here: in the "golden hour" the sun slips liquid through the trees and turns everything into a gilded faery land.

Very nice light and I appreciate that it is an honest attempt to capture what is special about being there rather than creating something special that is more about the technical possibilities of the camera. Here is a photo I took of my dog Fletcher in the garden close to sunset. I'm not sure if it is edgy or flawed but I kind of like trying to shoot toward the sun and see what happens. I think somehow the color of the flowers in the foreground is influencing the color of the sunlight if that's possible.

I'm sure it looks cool, but please don't turn your camera to the sun (especially if it is worth any money at all). It will eventually destroy the sensor that records the image.

I have a tripod already - what holds me back is the fact that my camera is a point and shoot, not a dslr. I don't have the $500 to get even a starter dslr yet.

Ouch! Did not know that. That one was taken with my old point and shoot. Now all I use is my iphone's camera. Do you know if the same caution applies?

Yeah, I was forced to buy one for a required class in my major (... Photo. Lol). I was particularly annoyed because it was not the first time I'd taken a photo class (although they are all film). I actually really enjoyed it, got a pretty easy A and an amazing Canon out of it.

While I'd have to see a more detailed description or a diagram of the parts of the camera, I feel pretty comfortable saying that it still employs the same tech. I think phones tend to have a rolling shutter, but the sensor is still the same. The sensor takes place of film in a traditional camera, you see, so it would be strange that it would not have one.

Come Chanuka, I'm sure I'll have more spending cash to get one. I want to have one before I attempt to go to London (attempt #2) in the spring. I'm looking at a 3100 at the moment. It would help if I could get my 8800 working in the meantime, even if it's only 8mpx. I'm having a shitty time finding a replacement lithium battery for it though.
