I don't particularly care for Trump. I just think people need to calm down a bit since there is absolutely no way that he would stop the sales of German cars in the United States.

I don't particularly care for Trump. I just think people need to calm down a bit since there is absolutely no way that he would stop the sales of German cars in the United States.

He surely won't. I'm not really worried about that though. What really worries me is that he goes on record saying how the Germans are very very evil. Don't get me wrong, that I'm German made sure that he got my attention with that remark, but I would be just as worried if he said that about any other democratic US ally out of nowhere. It's an insane statement, and it shows how insane he is.

A few years ago, we had a forum rumble about how US citizens were demonized for GW Bush. how unfair the smug european critics were and all that jazz. I am in Portugal, Our capital city is Madrid, should you decide to bomb us.

What neds to be done is to give formal education in schools, increase the level of awareness so that people can think critically without falling to easy demagoguery.

You won't find any disagreement here. Trump was completely out of order with that remark and definitely could have worded it better but there is nothing to worry about. He could turn around tomorrow and say that all Brits are evil. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I don't think he meat to say that Germans as a people are bad, he just lacks the skill to express more subtle points.

Especially when he talks so highly of Putin, Xi, and Duterte, all of whom are not only authoritarian, but made their countries much more authoritarian during their watches. This tells you where his inclination lies, and how unfitting the any democracy the Republican Party that stands by him is.

I have long maintained that courses in logic and rhetoric (in addition to 'civics' and history) are essential to a properly educated populace -- especially one with a political system such as ours. But that's a hard sell, at best, when we already are doing such a poor job teaching the current curriculum.
