Seeing a mum breastfeeding her child in public affects me about as much as watching someone eat a sandwich. Big deal. Big, supple, pouting deal.

Wasn't sure where to put this, so if it needs to be moved, by all means. 

So my brother posted something on facebook about the US being the only country that does not protect breastfeeding outside of the home. He is a huge proponent of mothers being able to breastfeed wherever and whenever they need to because their child is hungry. 

I agree with this. If a baby is hungry, a mother should be able to feed her child, no matter where she is. Others did not agree and went on to say that women should cover up their child or shouldn't "flop out their boobs" in public. 

I'd like to get a decent discussion going on this here. What are your thoughts on a mother's right to breastfeed in public and do you feel that she should have to cover up her child, even when there is a heatwave?

My first born was formula-fed, but I'm currently breastfeeding our little one, and I never realized how un-breastfeeding-friendly our society is until now.  You have the Academy telling you, "really, if you want to be a good mom, you better EXCLUSIVELY breastfeed for at LEAST a year; otherwise you're basically a failure."  But, it's almost impossible to find places in public to breastfeed unless you want to sit on a gross toilet in a public restroom somewhere.  This leads to women NOT breastfeeding because they feel isolated, and confined to their homes.  I bring my nursing cover wherever we go, and if my man gets hungry, he eats!  

But surely the public can tell the difference between you breast feeding your baby and indulging your husband, nursing cover or not. Also, where does the line start?

But surely the public can tell the difference between you breast feeding your baby and indulging your husband, nursing cover or not.  Also, where does the line start?

Maybe in your joke you've actually discovered the problem-- men never STOP being babies, so real live breasts are going to make them shit their pants and crash their cars.

I nursed my kid for 3 years and I was never comfortable with giving strangers around me a full on view of my nipples. I used a "Hooter Hider" - no lie, that's what it's called lol - that was sort of like an apron. I once cleared out a room at a party unintentionally when I was getting ready to feed the kid and people saw what I was doing. I looked up and - oops - everyone left. Who am I to tell them they should stick around and get over it?

What I do have a problem with is people telling women where they can and can't nurse. It seems like we women get bossed around enough when it comes to our bodies, how about letting us decide what's best for ourselves and our kids?
