Breastfeeding in public

I do not mind it being done in public so long as it is done tactfully; meaning that she utilizes a means of keeping her breasts covered while breastfeeding in public.

That's the thing... there is a covering. It's called the baby's mouth. Sometimes their hand and arm are up by their own face, which offers more covering. Nip doesn't show and what skin does show is no more than what you get when a woman decides to wear a skimpy scrap of fabric at the beach. No where in any instance of anyone that I know that has ever breastfed has simply whipped out their boob for all the world to see. I think people just feel the need to have something to bitch and complain about (not you Lutrinae).

So my brother posted something on facebook about the US being the only country that does not protect breastfeeding outside of the home. He is a huge proponent of mothers being able to breastfeed wherever and whenever they need to because their child is hungry. 

I agree with this. If a baby is hungry, a mother should be able to feed her child, no matter where she is. Others did not agree and went on to say that women should cover up their child or shouldn't "flop out their boobs" in public. 

I'd like to get a decent discussion going on this here. What are your thoughts on a mother's right to breastfeed in public and do you feel that she should have to cover up her child, even when there is a heatwave?

My first born was formula-fed, but I'm currently breastfeeding our little one, and I never realized how un-breastfeeding-friendly our society is until now.  You have the Academy telling you, "really, if you want to be a good mom, you better EXCLUSIVELY breastfeed for at LEAST a year; otherwise you're basically a failure."  But, it's almost impossible to find places in public to breastfeed unless you want to sit on a gross toilet in a public restroom somewhere.  This leads to women NOT breastfeeding because they feel isolated, and confined to their homes.  I bring my nursing cover wherever we go, and if my man gets hungry, he

When we had our daughter, I was stunned to learn how mothers in particular are guilt-tripped by society (mostly by other women I think. Men don't really care as long as thw baby isn't starving is my impression ) with completely contradictory expectations. For instance, we had to feed formula for a while due to the usual issues, and holy crapola did everyone have an opinion on that they didn't hesitate to share. My favorite from a neighbor was, when we literally just got home from.the baby IC unit because our 1 week old had developed slight jaundice from not drinking enough, "don't let the doctors make you nervous, a mommy's body knows best what is right for her child. Don't listen to anyone. You do know though that once you start with formula you can probable never go back?". It's all BS. And don't get me started on internet forums filled with judgmental super mothers who will tell you that you are a child-neglecting failure for not doing it exactly the way they did it.

I would suggest that if one sexualizes breastfeeding, the one who has the problem is not the one breastfeeding. It's a natural, necessary function and if it bugs you so much, avert your eyes.

It was two years ago. Not even in public, really. I was talking to a new client who'd brought her newborn along. We were in my boothe and she didn't Anounce it or anything. It was Like it was an automatic response. Reveal. Apply. As soon as I realized what she was doing, i just went on with our conversation.

Absolutely fine with a woman breastfeeding anywhere and anytime she thinks it is needed.  I'll let those who deal with milk production decide this one.

Yep.  This seems to be the rationale for almost all of these fetishes and oppressions: "I can't be around X without getting a hard-on, so X is dirty and must be banned."  X can be breasts, ankles, or the smell of flowers on a spring morning.

My wife used to breatfeed Sofia in public if needed. No problems here in Portugal. There are also those bras that have a little window that can detach down so the baby can eat.

To be honest, probably due to how little I actually go out anywhere, I have never seen the act being performed in public.
