That might all be worth something if we didn't live in a world of haves and have-nots.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

Why was the Romanov family executed?

They ate loud snacks in the cinema and had to go.

Part of me thinks it was good a monarchy was overthrown, but at the same time something just as bad or even worse followed it. However, I recently learned tonight while watching a documentary on the Russian Revolution that the Romanov family was brought into a room at midnight at executed by multiple gunmen. Even their children!!!

I never knew this. And yes, you cannot ignore history. But when I saw this in the documentary it literally broke my heart.

I do understand that Lenin's older brother was executed by this regime, but damn. This was a tough pill to swallow.

Because the city they were under house arrest in looked to be under imminent capture from the White Russia forces (monarchists) and the local Bolshevik leadership decided a living Romanov was too dangerous to the Soviet caise. Irony being that the Moscow leadership didn't want him killed and even went so far as to request from the German and British governments that the Romanovs be given asylum (Wilhelm, Nicholas & George being first cousins).

It's super unfair that russia can't skirt economic sanctions by selling all of those beautiful white babies to well to do american couples who don't have the time for the official adoption process here do to their super busy schedules being productive members of society and just maybe don't want a black one.

Wink

I don't know about other situations, but I do know for a fact my parents attempted to adopt a child from Africa but were not allowed to do so. But, I also do know it was a year long process for her. My parents did everything honorably and fairly. My mother was unable to have children at all.

It's still worth something. Living through poverty pulled me out of my selfishness and into being more understanding of the poor. That was my point.

I was just reading the wiki article of the family murder. Extremely brutal, some of them didn't die quickly. Even the maid, what the fuck could the maid have done?

There are a lot of great books on the topic. Check the library. You'll learn a lot of crazy details.

I'm not sure I'd be happy if life was boiled down to what I have monetarily, either. Food and shelter are the only things that can really kill ya in the haves department. Other than that, it's all family, friends, experience, hobbies, etc. You have to derive what meaning and purpose you can from life.

Sad as fuck! Make a pretty good film though. I know there have been a few made, but with what we have now I bet there could be something more dramatic and bloody that would truly demonstrate how ruthless this act was.

If they adapted a few pages of the bible at random I'm sure they could manage to top that.
