BUSTED: Trump Org hires Chinese government-owned company — and breaks Trump’s ‘no new deals’ pledge

However, McClatchy reports that a construction company owned by the Chinese government was just hired to work on a major project at Trump World Golf Club Dubai.

DAMAC Properties, a partner company that has a licensing deal for the Trump Organization’s name and brand, has  awarded a $32-million contract to a subsidiary of the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, a state-run company that was banned from receiving World Bank-financed construction projects amid corruption charges in 2009.

Those licensing agreements for the Trump name have unusual characteristics.

No matter how big a disaster a given development project might turn into, Trump makes money. In regards to litigation if a project goes south, Trump is off the hook. If the project is a success he can trot it out as a good example, if it fails he can ignore it with impunity and/or cite real or imagined enemies of the project (or himself) as the cause of failure, and make hay from that.

Apparently his legal staff is on retainer, so even the cost of litigation for a bad project is something he has already budgeted for and he essentially doesn't and can't lose money defending 'inevitable' lawsuits, he accepts them as the cost of doing business and already factors the (risk of the) expense in to the licensing fee.

Trump administration signals plans to defang retirement rule

The U.S. government will likely water down a key part of a landmark retirement rule, lawyers for the Department of Labor said, signaling that the government will offer an out for brokerages that would have been subject to class action lawsuits.

Thrivent Financial, a Minneapolis-based asset manager, has asked a federal court in Minnesota to block an anti-arbitration provision in the government’s fiduciary rule. The provision allows unhappy clients to sue their brokers, a first in an industry which has always required customer disputes be arbitrated.
