Don't the whites taking a knee count? I'm against them too.
Checking the database, 95% of people killed by police this year were...men.
Bias!

Then you are a tone deaf idiot.
I am sorry it bothers you that blacks are pointing out an uncomfortable reality. I am sorry it bothers you that whites who see this and are with blacks also see this. Instead of sticking your fingers in your ears, and putting your hands over your eyes, shut the fuck up and listen.
You are not helping blacks by basically shitting on them for using their positions to point out social inequality.
You don't like either black or white players protesting? Too fucking bad. This protest is long overdue. America needs to have this conversation. America has still not faced our deep rooted racism. I could give one shit less if you say you are not racist. This post is basically justifying ignoring a very real problem.
I DO support the black players and the white players and anyone whom recognizes the REAL inequality that still exists. Now ask me if I give a fuck that you are too much of a crybaby to understand this. Your private parts will not fall off if you face this reality instead of ignoring it.

What uncomfortable reality?
As I noted, in my state in 2017, 4 blacks have been killed by police. Three had guns, one had a knife. I don't find that uncomfortable at all. Why would I?
Quote:You are not helping blacks by basically shitting on them for using their positions to point out social inequality.
First, in general, I think racial inequality is propagated by focusing on it. Where I live, racism is lower now than it was when I was a child, but there weren't any protests. People have just realized that skin color shouldn't be a big deal. Racism will never be gone completely as our brains are hard-wired to sort things by appearance. But, looking at my parents' generation, my own, and my children's - and the election of a black president - I figured nine years ago that we were well on our way to becoming as post-racial as possible. Now, after 8 years of a black president, race relations are worse than before. Personally I think the powers that be on the left want racism to continue in order to get votes.
Quote:You don't like either black or white players protesting?
Not during the national anthem.
Quote:Too fucking bad. This protest is long overdue.
First, there have been protests over specific shootings, and you know they make national news.
Second, the NFL protest might be short-lived.
Quote:America needs to have this conversation.
I disagree. Certain areas have problems with shootings of unarmed blacks. Those areas need to have this conversation. Did you notice the difference in deaths between NY and CA? They're both among the bluest states, but one is far higher relative to population than the other. This suggests that policies and training might have more to do with it than racism.
Quote:America has still not faced our deep rooted racism.
As noted above, in my experience, in my area, racism has declined from generation to generation, so I disagree.

Knock it off with your bullshit white persecution.
Do cops shoot white people? Yea no shit, but not at the same rate FUCKFACE. Blacks are far more likely to be injured or shot when interacting with police. And even without weapons, blacks die, like the guy choked in NYC, like the lady whom died in her cell after being falsely arrested over a minor traffic ticket.
Pull your fucking head out of your ass. Even black republican voters, even they will tell you that their parents have that conversation about interacting with cops. Even they will tell you if they are parents will tell their kids how to interact with cops. That is something I never had to worry about. I've had a cop pull a gun on me because i had a replica cap gun when they were legal back in the early 1980s. A black kid with a mere BB gun gets murdered in a park. I saw that video. Kid never raised the BB gun. They fucking shot him out the damned window, never gave him a chance.
Am I mad about the recent white lady shot and killed over a mere pocket knife? Yea sure, but again, the fucking part you keep missing is the rate of injury and death is lopsided and blacks are far more likely to be injured or killed while interacting with police. And even outside that, blacks are also more likely to be punished more severely than whites for the same crime.
THAT is why the players are protesting. They don't want special treatment, they simply want equal treatment. It simply isn't enough for you to say, "I am not a bigot". If you say that then mean it, and stop pretending there is no inequality.

And we (and groups like BLM too) do care when police kill white people unnecessarily too. The issue is (in the most general sense) police brutality, but (as you correctly note) the distribution of victims is not random.

Are you concerned about cops being killed? Just last year, after a gunman killed 5 and injured 9, the Dallas Cowboys wanted to put a small sticker on their helmets which said (ironically considering last Sunday) "Arm in arm."
The NFL told then they couldn't.

I am concerned about anyone being killed. I can be concerned about both cops and the victims of police brutality and abuse simultaneously. And I can also respect the wishes of a team to decide how to respond to specific instances, be that to allow a form of display/support or not. This isn't a zero-sum game with respect to my empathetic abilities.
Do you not care about the lives of those being taken by police (and that they are overwhelmingly dark skinned)?

I have. I even gave a link to make it easy for people to do their own. It was a rhetorical question, designed to show that you don't really know what the statistics show.
In 2017, in cases where race is given, blacks are 27% of those killed by cops, while making up 13% of the general population. So, yes, blacks are disproportionately killed by police.
As noted previously, 95% of those killed are men. No one's arguing that cops are unduly biased against men. Most people conclude from this statistic that men are more dangerous than women and so killed at a higher rate.
Blacks, at 13% of the population, commit about half of all murders. You can draw your own conclusions.

Were there threads here outraged at the NFL's decision on the Dallas stickers?

I agree...but I'm painted as an extreme racist for disagreeing with the methodology of this protest.

I linked to the database some time ago. Blacks are killed disproportionately. I don't find it overwhelming. I find the percentage of males to be overwhelming - but understandable.
