What is the controversy surrounding #takeaknee

Yep, the hypocrisy of actually going against the guidelines for how to respectfully display the flag (all of the flag paraphernalia as well as displaying flags horizontally or displaying damaged flags or displaying a flag and allowing it to touch the ground, etc) while simultaneously criticizing someone for doing something that isn't actually in the guidelines (it is not considered disrespectful to kneel during the national anthem when addressing the flag), is about as good an example of "pot calling the kettle black" as one could ever hope to find.

I can understand if they putted out their dicks and started pissing that might be construed as disrespectfull, apart from lewdness. bending the knee doesn't sound disrespectfull at all. In a sentimental way its kinda more respectfull in my humble opinion. what's the deal?

The black guys are pointing out that "freedom and equality for all" is still our goal and not our reality. A lot of people really hate it when minorities point that out. And those people tend to be...white.

The whole point of kneeling was to protest respectfully (I linked a NY Times article earlier in the thread where Eric Reid, who started the protest with Kapernick, says that they decided on kneeling specifically to be respectful in their protest)

I live in the south so I get the distinct pleasure of listening to people bring this up about every five minutes or so at work. It seems to me we've got some football players making political statements by not joining in the conventionally expected behavior regarding the anthem and flag, which should be fine, this is America. The problem lies with the people who want the expected behavior to be compulsory.

Frankly, I find that to be the un-American behavior in all of this.

I live in South Georgia so I get to listen to it all the time too. What annoys me the most is that these are the same damn people who are always blathering on about their damn freedums. But once again what they want is for everyone to be free to do exactly what they agree with and nothing more.

And to say it is disrespectful to veterans...wtf. All my life all I've ever heard about is how men have died for us to be free. So doing the very thing that people have died to give you the right to do is somehow disrespectful to them? That makes no fucking sense.

Those who claim it is disrespectful of veterans never asked this veteran or any other veteran I've discussed the matter with.

They are also the same people who decry "SJWs" for being offended by things that they believe are perfectly okay (they are the anti-PC crowd), but then they turn around and get offended by all sorts of shit. I guess some fans have taken to burning their season tickets? Those are some delicate snowflakes I guess.

He literally called out the flag and the country.  And he was 100% right to.  Why are people trying to change what he said?  The flag represents America.  America is shit to black people.  So fuck America, and by the transitive property fuck the flag.  Do you not agree with that sentiment?
