You're welcome. Enjoy.
My grandmother's grandfather was a corpral in the Union army under General Sherman when he invaded the south.

My great great great great great great grandad fought for the roundheads, am I thinking of the wrong civil war?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

I have seen some of these, but others are new to me. Thanks for the link.

Looking at some of the pictures reminds me that this wasn't that long ago. Because it was before our time, we tend to think of it as a long past event, but it certainly isn't. I mean, the last of the people who were alive during the Civil War died while some people who are around today were alive.

Excellent find, thank you for sharing!

Despite it not being “my” civil war (I'm British) I did study it extensively when I was younger. Even toured some of the battle fields last time I was state side. I truly believe its an example to the world at large of what can happen in any conflict when technology outstrips combat tactics.

The Minié ball basically made line fighting tactics that had existed for about 150-200 years obsolete. The generals and staff officers failed to realise this, the common soldiers of both side paid an awful price for that.

Lesson should have been learned but were not, the same sad state existed 60 years later when World War One kicked off. Slaughter because of failure to change tactics.

Old soldiers never die because young soldiers do all the fighting.

Great pics! Always reminds me of the phrase "back in the good ol' days", and how untrue that is. Back in the good ol' days most of my family would be slaves. I'd be forced to marry and squeeze out kids.... assuming I lived that long, and my gayness and/or atheism wasn't found out. No thanks, I'll take 2010.
Douglas Adams:
He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
