Ghosties, ghoulies, and things that go "bump".

RE: Ghosties, ghoulies, and things that go "bump".
When i was a lad i was always afraid to go out after dark . Mainly because my Grandma use to scare us with old legends about monsters and spirits and all manor of means of warding them off .I note my Grandma believed in all  this as she held Pre - Christian  beliefs . By age 8  got over my fear of most of the nightmares that supposedly stalked the night . But i will admit that when i was north this summer i found myself feeling and acting a little   superstitious.

The bunyip. To me it was a giant black and grey dog like creature with thin legs and sharp teeth.
Hangs out at waterholes and creek crossings.
When I'm in the bush on my own, I still get that creepy feeling near water, even in the middle of the day.
Especially if the wind dies down and the birds stop chirping.
Mind you, I'm equally scared of feral pigs and cassowaries, so it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Fear of feral pigs and cassowaries seems like reasonable fear to me. If those things are out and about, the dark truly is full of frightening things and this chimp would prefer to be in a tall tree with a large cadre of homie chimps, shouting our bluff to whatever is out there.

When I was nine or so we lived in a trailer in Florida and my bedroom was sort of a shelf that stuck out of the front. My youngest sister was a toddler and my parents put a little gate to keep her out of my room, which didn't have a door. One night, after my bedtime, I heard my mother coming to check on me, as she sometimes did. I decided I would scare her by pretending to be asleep and jumping up suddenly. She came up the hall, opened the gate, and came to the side of my bed. I felt her put her cold hand on my shoulder. I sat up suddenly to startle her, but there was no one there. I was so terrified that I wasn't able to scream. I hid under the covers the rest of the night.

No interesting added details like 'and I found out the next morning that my grandmother had died' or anything like that. Just a weird thing that happened to me once.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

No wonder you're so red in the face, then.

Best Ghosties, ghoulies, and things that go "bump" I've heard of is The Queef Demon.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

No it is not, a "true account". A real claim someone made, sure, but not evidence one bit.

Humans worldwide make claims of spirits and ghosts, but that does not mean those things are real. It means our species perception of reality is notoriously flawed.

History has proven that humans make false claims that are documented sure. If merely claiming something constituted truth then Vishnu would be real god. Asian spirits called "nats" would also be real. Funny how you don't believe in the evil spirits of other religions but buy the ones you've been sold.

It may be true someone made the claim of the account. And it may be true an event happened that caused someone to make the claim. But that does not mean ghosts or spirits exist. It just means people claim them because gap filling is easier than testing and falsification in a lab.

Sure ghosts and spirits exist in only your brain if you want to believe in them badly enough sure. Superstition is popular in our species.
