Boy, you know that last photo of ABBA really reminds me of the way the Beegees looked in their disco times.  Same era?

Yea, I like the Bee Gees as well. That is another band that I thought got a bad rap for being so popular back then. Disco in general got a bad wrap.

But between ABBA and the Bee Gees, I'd argue ABBA was far more diverse in influences.  "Watch Out" by ABBA was not a disco song in the slightest. "The Piper" was heavy on Irish/Folk and could not be called disco either.

But I like them both, just that I like ABBA more. I also like Donna Summer. I wouldn't have gotten to Blondie's "Rapture" or "The Tide Is High" or "Heart Of Glass" if it were not for ABBA or Bee Gees or Donna Summer.

I also love the Ramones, and Metallica and Rush, and Reo Speedwagon, Queen, Manhattan Transfer, David Sanborn, Paula Abdul....... Weird Al......

Yea ABBA and Bee Gees were of the same Disco era. 

I loved Disco back then, but because I was bullied and teased for liking it, I abandon it trying to fit in. I have since stopped giving a fuck what people think of my musical tastes. I like a variety. I even have a couple favorite country songs and rap songs.

I love that song, but no, not into musicals. I didn't like the movie Greece even though I did like Olivia Newton John. I have no desire to see the movie. I watched Greece a long time ago once, and was not impressed. I like the music sure, just not musicals as plays or movies.

I can say just about the song itself, "Mamma Mia" I would have to say because of the guitar riff, that song single handed was to me the most responsible for making me desire more heavy guitar. I loved the riff, but always thought, even back then, why so light? Seriously listen to the main riff, that repeats, it was  hint for me to things to come as far as metal. 





I love the hint at metal in this song. I still to this day believe this song was my gateway to Blondie and Metallica. Back then I always thought "That's a great riff, I want more!'

In the late 60's I thought of them as more of a folk rock group, as in the last half dozen of these. Unfortunately a few links are dead but these were the Beegees I knew first.

Good choice, you didn't miss much My dad loved ABBA, he used to play their songs on a Sunday (all day) when he was off work. Every time I hear an ABBA track it reminds me of him.

ABBA was one of the first mail order albums I bought of a TV add. Irony was I was in love with the readhead back then Frida, while most were in love with the blond Agnetha. 

A little bit of irony. I hated "The Winner Takes It All" back then. I love it now. I guess I found it too sad and depressing back then. But looking at the message now, it makes sense. 

I really cant think of any of the future bands I ended up liking, not being a result of liking them first. I really think it had alot to do with Benny and Bjorn being classically trained, which put a lot of drama in ups and downs in their pace in each song. Metallica has that too and they are classically trained too.

The two women, Frida and Agnetha were in a country band called "The Hootenannies" prior to becoming members of ABBA.

Their biggest hits that made the worldwide stage were heavy in Disco sure, but when you listen to every song of their albums from 74 to 82 there is no way you can call every single one Disco.

I am sure the Bee Gees had different influences as well. Music never gets popular or starts new trends by remaining stagnant. If you are seeking to get that high up, you have to mix to stand out.

Now I won't say it is horrible song, just that I personally hate it. I used to hang out with other ABBA fans on a now defunct radio feed website and I am sure my fellow ABBA fans would say they love it. I cant stand it. 

Now while I don't hate Fernando or Chiquitita I am not fond of those either. Other ABBA fans love those songs. I don't hate them, but also wont go out of my way to listen to them repeatedly.

I like the heaver songs they do.

And I do mean "commit suicide" despise, "Suzy Hang Around".  I don't know what they were thinking, but it really smacked too much of the hippie 60s motif music. Now I won't say it is horrible song, just that I personally hate it. Wow, outside of hardcore ABBA fans, I don't know many people who know of "Suzy Hang Around".

Now if I am being totally honest here with this song. I will have to admit the biggest reason I ended up liking this song, was if you take notice of the Asian looking woman they zoom in on the beginning of the video.
