I did hear once that SA calls all atheists terrorists. Yeah, the country is one of the worst places in the world, and as much as the republicans cry about sharia law, they are actually one of our top allies. Because oil. And given the pipeline they built through America I'd say our government has no intention of getting off of oil reliance any time soon.

Good video to watch, if you want to know how common the Jesus story really is.

Interesting.

I'd have thought that the worms they pulled out of that N. Korean defector could have beaten out the WLB for "person of the year."

Why?  When the bombs fall it makes more sense to dig your foxhole deeper than to waste time praying to a non-existent god to save your ass.

Religion is not conditional.  It is always stupid.

I got rid of guys who prayed instead of fighting. By whatever means necessary.

There are fates worse than death. I'm not speaking from a religious view here; but about a leg getting chopped, sight gone in a blast, these kind of things. What about defeat, and watching your country turning to what I live in now? Biting the dust is what makes people religious in wars; death is easy. Dying is not scary enough compared to the earthly hell some people are ready to make you face before losing the fight.

There are fates worse than death. I think ancient people weren't stupid for being theists: they were just scared because that fate was a reality for so many.

No, because even after all that happens to you there remains the stark reality that eventually you are going to die, too.

There's no escaping that one.

No; you actually become so favored by the government if you saw that sex and alcohol are not forbidden; in that atheism is allowed; but if you speak about communism or socialism or secularism that brings down the government; you're dead.

For that reason I think the U.S's foreign policy is very sick: allies like SA should become despised from a very long time; virtue must be a companion for ruling; something secular systems still suffer from: when you chase interest only, you make the mistake of befriending countries like SA; even if it was a short-term alliance.

The goal behind a fine torture is to end that sense of reality feeling inside of you.
If you are a rational, strong person, there are always ways to break you, making the moment feel like 100 years. There's even methods of torture and killing designed specifically to prolong the time of death:

I doubt that victims remember death when they are skinned alive. The shock will just takeover.

I agree. It does not matter how much scary shit you might live through, or whom you defeat, win or lose every human, friend and foe alike, rich and poor alike all eventually die.

I think it is ok to fear death, it is why we try to avoid it in our daily lives. But I don't mean fear of punishment in a fictional afterlife, just fear of prolonged pain.

But I no, if I had my choice between being vaporized in a nuclear war, or surviving to see the suffering afterwords, I'd rather be vaporized.

So for me, it depends. I want to live as long as I am not in pain, or having constant violence around me and couldn't escape it. But I do want to live as long as possible.
