Oh, I thought of another one.
Les Miserables.
Well, ok, my first exposure to it was in Broadway form, but it did eventually become a movie so I'm going to count it.
Back when I was in my early 20's, I was very hooked on Broadway musicals. I had drifted away from my church, but was just barely starting to question the idea of God. Near the end of this play/movie is the line "to love another person is to see the face of God" and I kinda got obsessed with it because to me, the idea that God was an IDEA and not an actual, literal being was so new to me, I felt enlightened. I could drop the idea of a magical being, and embrace the notion that God is in us, an idea or philosophy of behavior towards others, and that kind of selfless love portrayed in the show was itself a form of enlightenment.
Perhaps it all seems a tad trite now, but at age 22-ish, it was a big leap in how I thought of things.
