RE: About vegans
All of your objections to eating meat are addressed by best practices or an investment in alternative livestock species or models.  This isn't to say that they aren't compelling in the absence of an absolute commitment to those practices..only that it's more a polemic against bad ideas than meat eating.

Personally, I'd just stick with the basic objection.  It will never not be true and it will never rely on even a subtle misunderstanding of food production.  You're not comfortable eating meat.  That, to my mind, is the best reason not to eat meat.  Nobody should eat anything that makes them uncomfortable unless they have to, lol.  I take it further.  If you wouldn't kill it yourself, don't eat it.  This isn;t an exhortation for everyone to start a livestock operation..only the suggestion that people should not force others to do what they would not by economic coercion. That a persons diet be compatible with their overall ideology as it pertains to food..insomuch as it can be. Work it out, all the way though, and make a consistent and informed decision.

That, all by itself, would likely lead to a world with less meat eating and better production models, as well as stricter adherence to best practices and an economic incentive to engage in them. Plus..you know, I'd make more filthy lucre. Wink

An old saying.................no brain no pain.............

This saying is correct only in part because consciousness doesn't necessary need a brain to exist.
Plants have consciousness.
In fact nothing can exist without consciousness so it is obvious that plants too can suffer.

https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/b...l-pain.htm

By eating plants however the suffer that we cause is minimal.
We have no choice but to make something suffer in order to survive.
Conscious people however chose to eat what cause less suffering such as plant food which by the way is more healthy being free from saturated fats and cholesterol.  Lightbulb

Was the suffering I would feel by being forced to live off rabbit chow while reading your brilliant objections....to eating...... calculated into that end result?

People can either suffer for good or bad reasons.
I leave to your imagination to sort out the dilemma to understand which is good and which is bad reason.

However my expectations for you to understand this point are quite low.  Rolleyes

RE: About vegans
I've slowly progressed toward vegetarianism. I've cut out red meat, and I only eat meat (chicken) for dinner a few times a week. It's just so easy to grill up some chicken though, I doubt I'll ever be strict about bot eating it. I do think it is healthier getting my protein from other sources though. Maybe I'm wrong. Whatever.

I need to look more into vegetarian meals and options before I decide.

I didn't see where anyone has mentioned lab-grown meat, so, there are companies that are attempting to scale up and reduce costs for eventual sale of lag-grown meats to the public.  Check out Memphis Meats.  Also, I think there was a thread here about it recently, but I cant find it. The response from ethical vegans should interesting if this does indeed comes online for the public.

When you say feelings, do you mean emotion, sensory experience or something else?

RE: About vegans
I was actually an ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 10 years, in the 1980s, and then went back to eating meat. The pendulum sometimes swings back to the vegetarian side for a few meals, but it's unlikely I'll ever commit to being a full-time vegetarian again. Once in a while it's nice to eat a vegan meal, but even when I was avoiding meat I didn't go that far.

Thing is: Not only is it:

Highly unfortunate for these living beings to be deprived of their freedom
Highly unfortunate that these living beings have to live in unlivable conditions
Highly unfortunate that they get fed Drugs that some people cannot even handle!
Highly unfortunate that the food companies fully aware fail to place appropriate information about the products and it's content
Highly unfortunate that the medical studies showing that Sugar is what causes diabetes were done for many years ago and recent research has not yet been heard by the public

Based upon these points alone, it should be illegal for human to consume such product due to its hazard and also, of course cause the whole industry is made halfheartedly with main focus on their profit model.

Watch documentary (if you want of course ^_^ )   On Netflix it's called "What the Health". Probably available on youtube.

RE: About vegans

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
