Was I traumatized by religion?
#1
Question
Was I traumatized by religion?
My family is moderate, but I learned religion in shool the fundamentalist way. I became a moderate thanks to one of my dad's friends. I offically became an atheist at age 17.
I don't worry about any of the teachings being real, what still bothers me is the fact itself that I was brainwashed. I'm neither happy nor sad most of the time, and I feel happines more than sadness, but sometimes the religious memories haunt me. I thought about going to a specialist, but I'm afraid that my family might find out about it. I will move to another country the next year, I might seek help there.

What religious memories are those?, if you don't mind sharing! But yes, seeking professional help when you believe you need it is a good idea, but just the fact that you can realize and break-free from the brainwashing should make you feel happy and proud; not many can do that! Smile

Thank you for your words! Now about the memories. I remember being taught that God is good, but He can send us to Hell, that we are so sinful and desperately need God and all the fictional Bible tales I thought they were real.

One thing for sure, it's not the worst stuff out there. People are dying like flies in stupid ways.

So you meant that other people have worse problems than me? If yes I totally agree with you.

I'm glad that I don't have it as bad as some other folks. On the other hand I feel bad for these folks. This is life, sometimes sweet, sometimes fucked up but worth living.

If bringing charges against religion were efficient, religion would no longer exist, or at the very least be tolerable.
