I may be anthropomorphizing but I think she may be sad that she was separated from her pups - that happened at the shelter before we adopted her. We didn't even know the pups were hers until after we had already decided to adopt her.
Whatever the case, she is really adjusting to life outside the shelter, and her personality is starting to show through.
We love puppies - other people's puppies, that is. We wanted an young adult, young enough to be more easily trainable and with lots of life ahead.

Good on ya, CD. I wish we could save a rescue dog, but our area isn't conducive to small dogs (foxes and coyotes) and a dog large enough to deal with the natives is too large for our property.
