Please support your premise ' it is impossible to think beyond your vocabulary' with evidence and reasoned argument. Because as it is, I do not accept your premise.

As far as I can tell, your syllogism, as it is currently stated, is both invalid and unsound.

It looks pretty much like a classic example of 'argument from ignorance fallacy'.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Post-modern nonsense. If that were true then people couldn't coin new words or invent whole new vocabularies in response to ideas, like for example, 'differentials' for calculus.

Of course you proved everything right? You proved beyond a shadow of a draft beer, that I am "ignorant"! And who are you? The sum total of your own wine! And I thought I was cocky?

You asked me to evidence how man cannot think beyond his vocabulary? I give the world YOU as evidence! I know that I'm not very smart but, I just called you very stupid!

Not so! Just maybe, I mean maybe, you haven't heard of "evolution". Verbally, it's called etymology.
My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well...she's not my girlfriend "yet".

I discovered a new vitamin that fights cancer. I call it ...B9

I also invented a diet pill. It works great but had to quit taking it because of the side effects. Turns out my penis is larger and my hair grew back. And whoa! If you think my hair is nice!

When does size truly matter? When it's TOO big!

I'm currently working on a new pill I call "Destenze". However...now my shoes don't fit.

I did not claim that I proved everything. Not sure how you read that into anything I posted?

All I am saying is that you have not supported your first premise with demonstrable evidence. I have no reason to accept it as being true.

I am not saying it is necessarily false, only that you have not supported it as being true.

And even if you can support it with demonstrable and falsifiable evidence, it still would not lead to your conclusion.

I am not being cocky. You asked in your OP for our thoughts. I gave you my thoughts based on logic learned in any 1st year philosophy class. It is logic 101.

Your argument is nothing more than the argument from ignorance fallacy. "I can't imagine how humans could have developed language via natural processes, therefore, it must have been a god".

Well, if you are content putting your ignorance on a pedestal and calling it "God", have at it. I would rather say "I don't know" when presented with a question that is currently unknown, like the origin of language.

The real problem with your contention, that only a god could be responsible for human language, is that there is actually some pretty good, evidence based natural explanations, for the origin of human language. No magic required.

Maybe you are correct. That I am unable to think beyond my vocabulary. But how does that prove that no one else has the ability to think beyond their vocabulary? I can't run a 9.57 100 meter, but that does not mean that others are also unable to.

That's known as the "black swan" fallacy, by the way.

If you mean that language evolved naturally, and is not a creation from scratch (like say Morse code), okay. If you mean that language WAS invented, but not by people, then you need to think things through a little more.

Simon? When did I say "language is from God?" You made an assumption? Dude! I never stated it! I know that the subject is very trollish, so purposely did not go there!

How do we think? How do we know? Nothing anyone knows is beyond vocabulary! It does prove that we have to continue to invent vocabulary in order to express thought beyond what is already written.

I'm pretty sure no one, looking at a piece of shit said to someone, "ugga booga". Rather, that someone said that that was a piece of shit and the listener knew what he was talking about! A piece of shit!

Now, did it start with a "piece of shit", or ugga booga?

There is know freakin way Bruddah, that man could even somehow invent intellect, or language! I think, therefore, I am! It's not I am and therefore I think! Your bass ackwards! And yes, I think OP is a good, valid question.

If you never learned any language, I come up and punch you in the nose.  You would think of no feeling or response - as any feeling or response would be out of your nonexistent vocabulary - and just stand there.

Yet, I would say ouch! Because I was given and intellect from the start and did not need to "learn" any language, beyond adulthood, because such language was given me through adulthoods and were they got it? And kick your ass royal in any language! Now, how are you going to argue with out language? Where did you get that ability to argue or think? Where did you get that intellect beyond the arff and ugga booga of bees and animals? Assuming you have somehow evolved beyond bees and animals?

This whole conversation reminds me of the man who once headed the Patent Office and said, before the airplane and the automobile or computing, "Don't bother sending in your patent requests because, everything that can be invented, has been invented". What a BOOB!

Now I just think you are being dishonest.

You created this post in the Christianity section of the forum. Not in the atheist section or the science section. If you are not implying that a god is responsible for language, why post it in the Christianity section?

Your OP only consisted of 2 sentences. One of which claims that language must have been given to us from the start.

If not a god, who are you claiming gave humanity language?
