Many Birds can fly transoceanic distances as routine part of their yearly migration.  This is well documented and thus well known for centuries, although it was not documented inside the tiny part of the real world that would be familiar to the provincial Iron Age yokels who concocted the Bible, so if you resort to the excuse of Bible is somehow connected to the all knowning, that would explains why you, being no wiser than so ignorant and idiotic a rag as the Bible, can be so ignorant about birds.
I am trying to understand where I live and how it happened since magic evolution is not the answer. There is only one bird, now or ever, proven to migrate to these islands. Yet, it was a bird sanctuary before man showed up in the mid first millennia AD. The bible cannot answer these questions either.

If the birds brought the seeds to plant this place, then what did they eat here before they grew? Why are these things that grew only found here? Do you have any idea how long it takes for sand and dirt to appear? Did the seeds float here first? No, first the dirt then the seeds then the birds. Do you know that Kauai is much smaller yet has far more beaches then the Big Island? Did you know that about half of the Big Island looks like the moon?

I am NOT trolling. But, your anti attitude of anti-bible and anti-theism is NOT objective.

Today is New Years Eve and it's a beautiful cloudless sunny day with genital trade winds and 80 degrees at 1:30pm. This place is absolutely beautiful and there is no place like it on earth--I looked(I have been all over this globe). Killer beaches, killer waves, killer chicks in bikinis on killer beaches watching surfers surf killer waves in winter!

Why does this place have 800 different types of flies? More then any place on earth! And if everything just somehow made it here, what about all the critters world wide that never made it(before man) like scorpions, frogs, lizards, snakes, roaches and seagulls? Still no seagulls!  

I would be far easier to explain Bermuda, Malta, the Galapagos and Canaries then here. I'm sure the answer is knowable beyond magic evolution or fundamental Christianity.

First, I think it is helpful to put the islands in their geological and chronological context.

The islands of hawaii are all volcanic, and all the volcanos were powered, but each at a different time, by the exact same underlying hot magmatic plume in the earth’s mantle, and all were constructed on very similar foundations of oceanic basaltic crust.    So fortunately for our understanding, they all had very similar geological life cycles.   The crust under the Pacific Ocean moves west by north west over the hot plume.   So each volcano pops up over the plume as magma from the plume burns through the crust.  The volcan then erupts vigorously for the around 1 million years when it stays on top of th eplumb, and then is carried off the hot spot to the west by the moving crust, and stops erupting.  Once eruption stops the volcano starts sagging from below under its own weight because the support of the buoyancy hot mantle plume material is gone, and eroding from above due to wind and rain.   It takes 3-6 million years for sagging and erosion to bring an extinct Hawaiian volcano completely underwater.

Thus the newest island, Hawaii, is less than 1 million years old and furthest to the east, right over the mantle plume.   The oldest island, Kaua’i, is 6-7 million years, is furthest west and about 300 miles to the west of the current location of the plume.   There are actually a lot more now drowned islands even further to the west.  Once the their tops subside below sea level, erosion pretty much stops, although the now seamount will still sag under its remaining weight some more, that too eventually stop.  So after about 15 million years, the former volcanic island, now submerged seamount will stop shrinking, and just sit there, carried along by the movement of the pacific.  There is a linear chain of submerged seamounts, getting progressively older as one goes west, that stretch from west of Kaua’i all the way to just offshore from Russia.   The oldest seamount is 80 million years old.  So although hawaii is all less than 6 million years old, the mantle plume that powered them is at least 80 million years old.

When the volcano is vigorously active, lava frequently pore down the sides and reach the sea. Soil build up is quick on a geological time scale, but is highly weather dependent.   On rainy areas on the windward side of the Hawaiian islands, fresh lava can acquire a veneer of soil enough for grass to grow in about 10,000 years.  Trees and forests can grow in about 100,000 years.  On dry leeward side of the island, it may take 250,000 years for substantial soil to accumulate.    Soil starts to form as soon as the lava cools, but if the volcano remains volcanically active, in areas that topographically favors lava flow, not much soil can develop before the next eruption covers it with fresh lava.  So on active volcanos large areas will be devoid of soil and vegetation even if the volcano itself has been above water for long enough to,form lots of soil.  Once volcanic activity on an volcano stops, however, soil will start to accumulate everywhere.

It has been shown that additional soil actually arrive by Air.  Fertile soil from Asia is blown by wind and deposited over the pacific.  Some of it will fall on hawaii.  This soil, although tiny in quantity, actually makes a significant contribution towards seeding native island soil in the pacific with key nutrients and microbes required for plant fertility.

Since each island can expect to remain above water from 3-6million years, so each island will have fertile and  abundant soil and vegetation for most of its existence, say between 2.5-5.5 million years.

There are many plants whose reproductive strategy is to drop seeds in the ocean and hope some will float up onto a beach to germinate.   Undoubtedly these are some of the earliest plants to reach hawaii.  We also know seeds can be carried by wind out from the continents and land in the sea and end up on islands.   So long as the seed land where there is soil, it can germinate and start a local population.

As to why hawaii has so many species of flies, there are 3 reasons.   But first it is important to keep in mind that the number of different species does not correlate to how long it took to evolve all those species.  Species don’t have to evolve one after another.  They can evolve in parallel if there are simultaneously many different unoccupied ecological environment to evolve into.   If you introduce a parent population into 80 substantially different and unoccupied ecological environments, you will get 80 different new species out in the same amount of time as it takes to evolve one new species.  

The reason why there are so many species of flies in Hawaii are: 1). Hawaii islands are unusually tall for islands.  Not many islands have peaks over 14000 feet.  So hawaii has abundant different niches by altitude.
2). Because hawaii islands are situated in the trade wind latitudes, there can be vastly different range of annual rainfall on each island, this both increase the range of plant life, food, and range of humidity conditions for flies to adapt to.  3) Hawaiian ecological system is comparatively recent, and if flies are one of the first insects to arrive, it would find many unoccupied niches it can exploit that on the continents, the flies may be barred from by other pre-existing species of animals of other kind that are already better adapted.

I don't know why there are no seagulls in Hawaii. I suspect real ornithologists can give you a very good answer.   But you are right to suspect it takes a chance event to bring normally terrestrial animals to Hawaii without hi human intervention.   We know chance events capable of doing that happens.  In 1880, krakatao volcano erupts cataclysmically in sunda straits in what is now Indonesia, and the entirely volcano eventually collapsed into the empty magma chamber under the sea floor.  This created a tsunami that swept miles inland and liked 40,000 people. When the tidal wave retreated it carried millions of tons of dead trees and drowned plants back out to see. Months later huge mats of mixed dead trees and vegetation from Indonesia floated to shore in africa, some still carried live insects, small lizards and mammals that had subsisted on the vegetation matter over the month.   So we know cross ocean transport of live animals do occur naturally.
But it is not an truly frequent occupancy.  Hence you should not be surprised if 1) many animals made it to Hawaii over the island chain's entire 80 million year existence. (Yes, oldest existent island is only 6 million years old. But  Animals could have made it earlier to a now droned island, which is the difficult part, then their descendants made the much easier and more probably trip between islands later to one of the current islands before their original.iskamds subsided), and 2) many animals that could survive on the island never had a chance to make it to the island. Just so happens none of them ever boarded or survived a vegetation mat trip to Hawaii.

Wow! That was awesome! Thank you! I would imagine then that as these seamounts formed, the island(s) to the southeast would look better and better so, some birds, if not all, might have(what choice did they have) island hopped their way down the chain. Once here, might have made it to this island and not another with no reason to leave.

I live on Maui. When the Axis Deer that live here(a smaller deer introduced from India) get too populous, they will sometimes try to swim for another island they can see like Lanai or Molokai. Because of sharks and vicious current between the islands, most don't make it. But, they instinctively did not have a choice. You can hunt them if you have access to land to hunt them on. They are delicious!

One thing for sure is the diversity of environments. Windward get plenty rain. Leeward, not so much. Upcountry is cool and the beaches are warm. Did you know the Kauai and Maui have the rainiest spot on earth? Usually Kauai win. Sometimes going to the other side is like a different world with different weather, humidity, wind, etc. Some places you can actually see a dividing line where one side get much rain and one side get little. 

You brought up Krakatoa: I once lived on Bali in Indonesia as well as Australia and went back and forth because of visas. I was there for surfing. I was thinking, yes it hurt and yes, you can smell smoke but, try look! If the core of the earth is spinning faster than the crust, then could it be that the atmosphere is spinning at an even slower lag?

Not too many years ago, there was a hole in the ozone layer that came across the Indian Ocean to Western Australia. It was dangerous on the coast and surfing was dangerous requiring special sun protection. As that hole moved across land it filled in.

My idea is that maybe that hole was caused by Krakatoa and lagged to Australia. What you think?

There are many plants whose reproductive strategy is to drop seeds in the ocean and hope some will float up onto a beach to germinate.   Undoubtedly these are some of the earliest plants to reach hawaii.  We also know seeds can be carried by wind out from the continents and land in the sea and end up on islands.   So long as the seed land where there is soil, it can germinate and start a local population.

As to why hawaii has so many species of flies, there are 3 reasons.   But first it is important to keep in mind that the number of different species does not correlate to how long it took to evolve all those species.  Species don’t have to evolve one after another.  They can evolve in parallel if there are simultaneously many different unoccupied ecological environment to evolve into.   If you introduce a parent population into 80 substantially different and unoccupied ecological environments, you will get 80 different new species out in the same amount of time as it takes to evolve one new species.  

The reason why there are so many species of flies in Hawaii are: 1). Hawaii islands are unusually tall for islands.  Not many islands have peaks over 14000 feet.  So hawaii has abundant different niches by altitude.
2). Because hawaii islands are situated in the trade wind latitudes, there can be vastly different range of annual rainfall on each island, this both increase the range of plant life, food, and range of humidity conditions for flies to adapt to.  3) Hawaiian ecological system is comparatively recent, and if flies are one of the first insects to arrive, it would find many unoccupied niches it can exploit that on the continents, the flies may be barred from by other pre-existing species of animals of other kind that are already better adapted.

I don't know why there are no seagulls in Hawaii. I suspect real ornithologists can give you a very good answer.   But you are right to suspect it takes a chance event to bring normally terrestrial animals to Hawaii without hi human intervention.   We know chance events capable of doing that happens.  In 1880, krakatao volcano erupts cataclysmically in sunda straits in what is now Indonesia, and the entirely volcano eventually collapsed into the empty magma chamber under the sea floor.  This created a tsunami that swept miles inland and liked 40,000 people. When the tidal wave retreated it carried millions of tons of dead trees and drowned plants back out to see. Months later huge mats of mixed dead trees and vegetation from Indonesia floated to shore in africa, some still carried live insects, small lizards and mammals that had subsisted on the vegetation matter over the month.   So we know cross ocean transport of live animals do occur naturally.
But it is not an truly frequent occupancy.  Hence you should not be surprised if 1) many animals made it to Hawaii over the island chain's entire 80 million year existence. (Yes, oldest existent island is only 6 million years old.  But  Animals could have made it earlier to a now droned island, which is the difficult part, then their descendants made the much easier and more probably trip between islands later to one of the current islands before their original.iskamds subsided), and 2) many animals that could survive on the island never had a chance to make it to the island.  Just so happens none of them ever boarded or survived a vegetation mat trip to Hawaii.
Wow! That was awesome! Thank you! I would imagine then that as these seamounts formed, the island(s) to the southeast would look better and better so, some birds, if not all, might have(what choice did they have) island hopped their way down the chain. Once here, might have made it to this island and not another with no reason to leave.

I live on Maui. When the Axis Deer that live here(a smaller deer introduced from India) get too populous, they will sometimes try to swim for another island they can see like Lanai or Molokai. Because of sharks and vicious current between the islands, most don't make it. But, they instinctively did not have a choice. You can hunt them if you have access to land to hunt them on. They are delicious!

One thing for sure is the diversity of environments. Windward get plenty rain. Leeward, not so much. Upcountry is cool and the beaches are warm. Did you know the Kauai and Maui have the rainiest spot on earth? Usually Kauai win. Sometimes going to the other side is like a different world with different weather, humidity, wind, etc. Some places you can actually see a dividing line where one side get much rain and one side get little. 

You brought up Krakatoa: I once lived on Bali in Indonesia as well as Australia and went back and forth because of visas. I was there for surfing. I was thinking, yes it hurt and yes, you can smell smoke but, try look! If the core of the earth is spinning faster than the crust, then could it be that the atmosphere is spinning at an even slower lag?

Not too many years ago, there was a hole in the ozone layer that came across the Indian Ocean to Western Australia. It was dangerous on the coast and surfing was dangerous requiring special sun protection. As that hole moved across land it filled in.

My idea is that maybe that hole was caused by Krakatoa and lagged to Australia. What you think?

I don't think there is any evidence the ozone hole in the late 20th century is caused by Krakatoa eruption in 1880. The well know chemical properties of a lot of man-made aerosols that were released in large quantities into the atmosphere during mid to late 20th century seems entirely adequate for explaining the ozone depletion in late 20th century.
