Pep rallies in school were super fun! Plus we got out of class for it.

I don't understand the point of them. If you're planning out what you are going to teach the kids throughout the school year and what they need to know, what does a pep rally achieve?

There's no point.  

It's biological conditioning.

Europe got rid of their unwanted huddles masses through a self-selection process.   Golgafrincham-style.  

Easily pepped?  Easily hope-hyped?  Gullibility preferred.  Apply within.  Land-grab, gold-rush, afterlife... go for it.  See ya.  

Meanwhile, back in Blighty, cynicism reigned and reigns still.

Become perfect, be supernatural, never give up and always hope.

A lesson from Tolkien:
Sam and Frodo became truly heroic near the end of the journey there (not back again) when they abandoned hope.

Conclusion:
British sport and attitude to sport is superior because ... we are hopeless.

Uk all the way. There's no way on the planet that a bloke should be allowed to chain saw timber at the side of a football pitch, what's that all about.
Sometimes less is more.

If I wanted to see fireworks I'd go to a firework show.
In the US they have mastered style over content. Taken to its extreme you just get no content people voted into office because they happen to have been on TV or films. Jessie "the Body" Ventura was a mayor. Trump is just the ultimate example of this.
