American Vs UK
This isn't a thread designed to start a war, just a casual question.

I think the best way I could word it is, what style of presentation do you like in relation to sports?

From what I've noticed is that there's an American style, which is to have the loud music, entrance themes, light shows, fireworks, gimmicks, mascots, teams named after animals or other things.

Or there's a much more understated style which the UK has.  The teams are mostly just called Manchester United, Manchester City and so on.  There seems to be less of a pre game show.  Not to shit on the UK style too much but everything just seems more dull.  Gimmicks and having a flashy style is actually shunned pretty heavily at least in British football, especially by a lot of the more old school people involved in the game.

I'm actually undecided, I really love the American way of doing it, I imagine the atmosphere is fired up in these American sports venues.  On the other hand I can see why that style is shunned a lot in Britain.

Or maybe you think I'm wrong and there is no difference between how the countries sports are presented.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Uk all the way. There's no way on the planet that a bloke should be allowed to chain saw timber at the side of a football pitch, what's that all about.

I don't watch sports, but I much prefer American style when it comes to movies and TV shows.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

If UK sports made as much money they;d likely do the same.  It;s not our fault your sports programs are the equivalent of our high-school shit. Wink

Yeh I did consider this but we have Arabic billionaires who own our clubs so I don't think money is an excuse.  It could be part of it, but I really do think there's a tendency for flashness and extravagance to be seen as negative.

Well then, yall just need to go get some pizazz...don't you?  Wink

Our theatricism in sports has been associated with it being the ritual expression of our american militatism, btw. Those who are about to die...we salute you! Yall are playing a ball game...we're preparing for war.

My opinion when I was younger was definitely yes.  One thing I used to love and still do now is American football team gimmicks.  The raiders, the dolphins, the seahawks.  Now I'm caught in the middle, I can see charm in the understated, gritty, dull style of English football.  But I want a cool looking T shirt with a raider pirate on it, or a dolphin.  Which I suppose I could still get.

-ah, but you cant buy the hard heart that kills.  That has to be encouraged from birth. Supergay pageantry helps, as strange as that may seem.
