Originally, I would have been inclined to agree with most of you. My thought was that intelligent life very likely exists right in this galaxy, but that it was probably not making house calls. I'm an evidence sorta guy. Problem is, when I finally got past the decades long practice of ridiculing anyone who's interested in studying a phenomenon, I found that there is stacks of evidence for it everywhere.

2 or 3, 10 or 20, maybe even 1 or 200 accounts could be dismissed. Not thousands. To dismiss thousands and thousands of sightings and experiences, many from very reputable people, without so much as a look - smacks of ignorance and hearkens back to the blind dogma of the Catholic church when questioned about a flat earth being the center of the universe. "I don't understand how a race a million years ahead of us could get here, so it can't be true."

Thousands of people have "seen" Jesus. Seen Bigfeets. Seen Nessie. Seen what they dearly want to see.

Taken at face value, it's interesting..for sure.  OTOH, it's a video of something I can't explain on flir.  I've personally seen lots of strange things on flir.  None of them likely to have been aliens...going by the few things that were so damned weird we dismounted and checked them out up close.  

I couldn't personally conclude "visiting aliens" from that video.  The text calls it a UAP, whomever was talking called it a drone.  I didn't notice (or they didn't capture) the "fleet" of them that was alluded to.  That would have been even more interesting, even if it may not have been any more conclusive. I've never seen a fleet of flir fuckups. It's usually a one off thing (when it isn't malfunction).

My thoughts on alien abductee accounts, specifically:

I don't see why a species possessing the advanced technology/capability required to travel light years should have such a fascination with anal probing. 
Buttholes aren't that complex, comparatively.

Anyway, dozens of government officials from nearly every major country have come forward to admit that extraterrestrials are indeed real.
Both British and US Freedom of information acts have unearthed a myriad of documents that show those governments have been extremely active in covering up and then ridiculing UFO sightings. 

The more I looked into it, the more I became convinced that we have been and still are being visited by extraterrestrials. This is from a guy who was most definitely a skeptic. Actually, I still am. If anyone ever tells me they saw a UFO, I'm going to immediately start punching holes in their story.

That being said. There's far too much evidence collected in the last 80+ years to blindly dismiss the possibility.

I'll take one credible alien craft over mountains of ufo accounts.

My favorite was this doofus who said he saw a UFO speeding low across the sky one foggy night.  He had a shaky cell phone video to back him up.

When the investigators went out to check in the daytime they found that he was standing on the edge of a beach with a promontory running out and with a highway on it and there were cars driving along the highway.  The speed limit on the road was 40.

As noted, people see what they want to see.

I used to watch stargazer and unsolved mysteries.  We didn't have alot of channels.   Now, I remember seeing a ufo one night, through binocs, that looked exactly like the flashing light double decker saucer I'd seen on one of the episodes.  I was looking up, I saw t, I moved the binos to take a look with my eyes, didn;t see anything, put the bionos back up and there was nothing.  That's how I remember it.  It;s a very rich memory, detailed, compelling.  I can tell you that it was cool, and that it smelled like spagnum.  That there were no crickets that night...that the sand was warmer than the air because the day had been hot.  

I was a kid then, but now...decades later, I wonder what the odds would be that an alien deep space exploratory vessel would look exactly like a prop on john walsh's shitty tv show?  Is that really what I saw..if I aw anything at all...or is that a manufactured or cutting room floor type memory?  Well, if so....which parts.

UFO sightings around the planet now number in the tens of thousands since the 1940s and there's an overwhelming amount of compelling cases for extraterrestrial life visiting this planet. Oddly enough, I have found that many atheists scoff at the notion of intelligent life visiting and/or residing here on Earth.
One would think that the religious right would be far more inclined to this position (as many are), but I have found that despite the overwhelming evidence and the fact that the topic itself is based in science and reality rather than magic and superstition, that many open-minded people will not even consider the possibility.

So...

What are your thoughts on the matter?
Is it all a hoax? 
Do you think extraterrestrials have or are possibly still visiting this solar system?

Yes, this is about miracles from our Heavenly Father.

Miracle sightings around the planet now number in the tens of thousands since the 1940s and there's an overwhelming amount of compelling cases for miracles from God on this planet. Oddly enough, I have found that many atheists scoff at the notion of miracles happening and/or their being a gift from our Lord and Savior.
I find it truly incredible that many open-minded people will not even consider the possibility.

So...

What are your thoughts on the matter?

In the most generous interpretation, cutting out all of the anal probings during happy hour in rural america (it was your boy Jimbo, not aliens, sorry Cletus!).....many people report seeing UFOs.  

I'm completely comfortable dismissing thousands of UFO sightings if the subject is aliens..because even if there were aliens they're not likely to be the explanation for very many of those ufo sightings.

Do you have any favorites?  I'll take one credible alien craft over mountains of ufo accounts.  Quality, not quantity.  "Too much" bad evidence is still bad evidence.

I too am very comfortable dismissing MANY sightings. And if sightings were the only evidence we have, I wouldn't have even bothered. Also to clarify for everyone, I do not claim to know for absolute fact that extraterrestrials are visiting earth, but I have found plenty of compelling evidence to warrant a real consideration (and dare I say belief) of the possibility. But yes, I do think that extraterrestrials have shown at least some interest in this planet. When all the likely and the plausible has been exhausted without explanation, the extraordinary must be considered.

Agreed on all counts. Many opinions are really ridiculous.
But you'll have to explain to me how accepting that intelligent life likely exists outside of our solar system is perfectly acceptable, but that consideration of that same intelligence visiting our little corner of space makes one "fucking stupid."

I don't have an opinion yet on the abductee phenomenon, as I have done little research on it. That being said, the anal probe thing is not a real thing. 
It's a joke made up in science fiction movies that took off and got a life of it's own. From what I understand most abductees have never reported anal probing.

...And being a skeptic myself, I would assume that there are MANY "sightings" that would fall into this category. Like I said, if sightings were the only evidence of extraterrestrials, I wouldn't even bother. Everyone seems to completely ignore the incredible amount of government documents testifying to the existence of aliens, crash sites still radioactive, documented implants, the testimonies of dozens of decorated military officers and witnesses that number in the hundreds for one event. The USS Roosevelt alone has hundreds of witnesses for single events.

My point is only that, yes, of course people do see what they want, and I agree with you. That doesn't make the subject unworthy of serious consideration.

And here you have the coup de grace. 
It's ok to believe in intelligent life outside of earth as long as you don't think it can go anywhere. AND somehow, that means that anyone willing to look at it from a rational scientific position should be compared to people who believe in magic.  Why?

How is equating a genuine well-documented phenomena to the subjective "miracles of god" remotely legitimate?  It's not.
"Space is too big. They're too far away. Light speed limit. I dont understand it, therefore it's not possible."
Meanwhile, the origins of the Universe can't completely be explained either, and we get mocked for that, but somehow that's acceptable.

You don't want to believe that extraterrestrials can visit earth thats fine. I was the same way, but I'm telling you this, once you stop limiting your evidence to only sightings by stupid rednecks and actually digest all the data (and there's TONS of it), you may find what I did:  I can no longer rule out the possibility.
