Hi

Hi
I just joined. My name is Jeff. I'm 55 with 2 adult kids (ages 28 and 31). I'm originally from northern California but I've lived in Pennsylvania since 1984.

I identify myself as an agnostic because I honestly don't know if I can believe in God or not. I'm a follower of an Indian mystic named Osho, and he was an atheist (as his book "The God Conspiracy" makes abundantly clear, although his earlier books seem to indicate that he was originally an agnostic (from a Jain background), who gradually evolved into an atheist).

As to belief in an afterlife, I'm unsure about that. My personal opinion is that of all the afterlife theories reincarnation makes the most sense, where you keep coming back to try again until you reach whatever the goal of existence is. I just can't force myself to believe that a god would torment someone for all eternity just because some of their religious beliefs turned out to be wrong.

Well, enough about me, the reason I joined this forum is that I want to try to sort out what I believe or don't believe and I want to get input from  the people here, (as well as a general religion forum I'm also a member of) to help me get it all sorted out.

RE: Hi
Welcome Woof!

For me, there is no afterlife that I will experience. My physical body will be recycled, does that count? I'll live on in others memory for a generation or two, does that count?

Oops, intro thread, we'll save that conversation for another time.

RE: Hi
Welcome aboard Jeff.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: Hi
Welcome! Native and current southern Californian here, who had the pleasure of living in PA for 9 years until family issues brought me back. As for reincarnation, I often---and I mean often---get into modes where I would dearly like reincarnation to be what's next for us, but I still can't see proof of that, or anything else. Belief and want are really tied in with eachother for many people, I think. And all I've ever had any interest in is the cold, hard truth. Hence, I'm an atheist.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

RE: Hi
Welcome.

Normally we'd gave a sacrifice to the Dark Lord in your honour. But we're out of virgins.

I guess it's my turn to raid a Trek convention...
