Both sports involve big hits. American football probably a bit more so, so the padding I can kinda see the point of. However, over all, rugby is by far physically more demanding for the simple fact they go for 80 minutes non stop (10 minutes at half time) , they don't stop every ten seconds to line up again, don't have a break every quarter and they defiantly don't switch the whole team around for offence and defence.

Go ahead. Call an American football player a sissy to his face. The average size is somewhere around 6' 2" to 6' 6" tall and 250 to 300 lbs... and they slam into each other as hard as they possibly can... over and over again.

they ran at each other, for some reason they stopped, milled around a bit, lined up, ran at each other...............and so on.
And why is it called football when they either chuck it or run with it? very rarely does anyone kick the ball.

I've always wondered why they called it 'Football'. That name doesn't make much sense at all. Heheh! And, yeah... if you don't understand the game, it probably does look like they are just running into each other and milling around. It's a lot more complicated than that, though... serious strategies, formations, and... so on. Anyway... the point is... without the padding, most of them would be broken or dead before halftime. And... back to the original point of the thread... if you understand how the game actually works... that play was genius... as evidenced by the fact that it worked! Heh!
