Why do people dislike Celine Dion?

I'm just not, for the most part, into soft rock and country, which is kind of popular amongst the young'uns now (at least the white ones). What I like seems to fall in all these subgenres that didn't exist when I was 20ish. Nothing is just plain "indie" anymore, or if it is, it's ironically pretty darned commercial.

I find Celine Dion's music sickeningly kitschy and dreadfully boring. It's elevator music with lyrics, over-processed sonic bubble-gum, designed to have such a wide appeal, that it has no character, or warmth.

But that's just me. I think most people dislike her, because that stupid Titanic song was over-played ad nauseam in the late 90's, to the point of becoming unavoidable, which tends to annoy people with working ears and a musical taste. Consequently both the song and the performer associated with it became a dated cringe meme, just like, say, Brian Adams did because of that Robin Hood ditty.

I think I finally have developed appreciation for rap.  I just prefer it written out like that.
