Cinco de Mayo

RE: Cinco de Mayo
When I transferred to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, back in 1975 one of my guys asked me if the locals celebrated Cinco de Mayo?

"Why would they do that?"

"Well, they speak Spanish."

I kept a closer eye on him after that.

Given that the remix of Season 4 of Arrested Development just dropped on Cinco de Cuatro, a variation on the theme from that very season, I think I may have found something.

Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal in my sister city, St. Paul, than it is here in Minneapolis. It sounds like a great excuse to eat Mexican food and get hammered, but it's like three buses to get there.

Pretty sure that the shepherds who migrated through my hometown with sheep in the late '50s and the '60s were Basque. They would herd the sheep along, and sleep in a trailer that was towed to the next expected overnight stop location. Whatever the nationality, one of my high school friends spotted one of 'em pushing a sheep into his trailer. Confused
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Obviously, in the USA, the date is important because it's an excuse to get hammered and eat "Mexican" food.

It's not a celebrated holiday in Mexico. It's only really celebrated in USA.

RE: Cinco de Mayo
I recall Cinco de Mayo being a 'big deal' at a gay bar long ago.  Checking old calendars on-line I note 1979 May 5 was a Saturday.  I would most likely have been in either Chicago or Milwaukee on that date.

Had a nice time as I recall . . . .
