Why millennials are drawn to socialism

If capitalism doesn't die in this century it will be a miracle.

Capitalism, through its superior ability to allocate capital efficiently to maximize the total productivity, will give societies that exploit this capability a major advantage, and this is likely remain a dominant economic institution amongst the most influential powers in the world until such times as when that capability is equaled or surpassed by other system.  That time is not visible as of yet even on the furthest hoirizon

I'm not suggesting that we will replace it willingly, I'm saying that the competitiveness of capitalism will generate so much wealth that it will transition to socialism without any help from us. If there are enough resources for everybody from where will the need to compete for resources come? I'm guessing that we will change from working to survive to working for the benefit of our species just because we won't need to compete for resources anymore.

Capitalism doesnt work on the basis of need...so it doesn;t matter whether theres a need to compete.  Theres no -need- to compete today..and yet.

So long as capitalism is protected (like we do) then it will create that competition. Competition, itself, is profitable.

Capitalism "doesn't" need to compete, yet big capitalist business sure enjoys putting small business out of business; i.e., the cancerous WalMart.

In order for socialism to beat capitalism you need to get everybody on board with the idea otherwise it can't work properly. I see socialism as something that we reach.

The need to survive doesn;t drive capitalism.  Consumer goods do. Currently, we conceive of needful goods as a consumer good. Theres no such thing as "enough goods" in a consumer economy.

Mo goods mo money..and this leads to a situation where food is traded as a commodity while people starve. To a situation where people starve while simultaneously being obese...even.

You dont need to get everyone onboard, in any case, only enough people so that the profit motive is eradicated in some tiny market space. There are no for-profit csa's within 25 miles of me, for example..because I would tank them.

I wasn't talking about what runs capitalism, I was talking about what drives people, and what drives people has an impact on every artificial construct that we design. Automaticaly if we change our behavior/goals our economy will change with us, basically if our interest isn't goods that we will compete or strive for other things but money won't be one of that things, we changed our way of conducting bussines several times through history and I don't think that capitalism is the best thing that can be, just the best thing that works now.

I think that this competition is a good thing in consumer goods...it;s just that we include things we shouldn;t in that set. It;s hardly working "the best" now..it;s failing.

That;s why millenials are drawn to socialism. Observation of the failure of capitalism. Capilatism for art, capitalism for big screen tvs..sure. Capitalism for food has already failed, completely. Look at our farm subsidies. There are malnourished people in the richest and most productive piece of real state on the panet. That;s failure. Abject failure. We ameliorate it with half step socialist stopgaps...but we just can;t bring ourselves to admit the problem we have and do what we need to do to solve it. Yet another failure of capitalist ideology. For a framework that deifies competition..it sure as hell can;t stand any. It perceives ideological competition as a rejection of it;s validity, lol.

Greed and the fallacious 'just world' theory drive capitalism, I reckon.

The first, greed, is obvious. The other..... is the idea that everyone can make themselves. The self-made man. The delusion that everybody can just become a success despite the fact this world is mostly down to luck. Socialism is supposed to factor in the bad luck in life which is why it's about sharing stuff rather than grabbing stuff.

I am NOT saying that socialism can work. I'm saying that if it did work, we'd live in a better world than capitalism.
