The U.S. birth rate is at a 30-year low according a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)—and the range of reactions to this new data is what you would expect. People have been quick to speculate about the reasons behind the trend, but many of them miss an obvious point: people are not having as many children because America is one of the hardest places to raise a child.

Ridiculous article. Western Europe has lower birthrates. Having low birthrates is a sign of an educated populace and a good thing. That article is worthless. Doesn't understand at all the things correlated with low birthrates and in fact gets some of them completely opposite of the truth.

Only the rich can afford a kid it actually claims, even though poor people have far more kids.

For once, I agree. Nothing kills quality of life like mindless reproduction. The more people, the less of most everything there is for individuals.
