How will genomics affect dating and marriages?

RE: How will genomics affect dating and marriages?
You have to be able to tolerate the person (forever!) as well as wanting good genes.

Also, many couples are voluntarily childless nowadays. Lots of people are looking for a lifelong partner, someone to keep company and grow old with, not necessarily a breeding partner. For that genes matter less, and personality much, much more. So you'd still have to date traditionally.

Getting to know a person isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

So, it would be wise to ignore a few personality flaws in a person provided they have great genes. And you don't even need to meet a person to determine if they have good genes; you just need their DNA. I just happen to believe that good genes in a partner are more important than superficial qualities.

Edit: This is true only if your end goal is making a healthy baby. If you're just using the dating process as a surrogate for companionship, personality and looks would trump genes.

I'm no longer of reproducing age, but if I had had to choose between a nice person with an iffy genome and some arrogant S.O.B. with The Best Genes There Are, I would opt for the nice person 100% of the time.  No question.
