Yes!

If you get stupid and don't wear your seatbelt, if you and I have Geico and you go through the windshield, and end up the ER, since insurance is a private pool, everyone who has Geico has to make up for everything after your deductible. Insurance companies lose money every time they pay out and pass that cost of paying for your fucking stupidity onto everyone else who has the same insurance.

The reason for seatbelt laws is that all too often it's, not just, you who dies, but anybody else in the car with you.

I dunno. I was in a major car accident back in 92 when the guy who hit me was going twice the speed limit.

My seatbelt broke.

What would have happened if you had not been wearing one ?

The exact same thing that happened anyway. I busted out two windows with my head and nearly went through the windshield.

One of the reasons I've seen discussed, one that's honestly pretty damn convincing too, is that someone else gets to scrape you off the highway, and that someone else may suffer greatly for having to do so.

We don't live in a bubble.  A gruesome roadway death does not happen in isolation.  Other human beings (often first responders) have to pry smashed up people out of cars, clean up mangled corpses, and suffer the mental health issues that come with seeing, smelling, and touching all of that.  Not only that but think of the trauma caused to other innocent motorists.  Those that see it and perhaps others in the same accident, through no fault of their own.  Poor little Jimmy not only was injured through the fault of driver A driving recklessly, but then saw driver A's bloody corpse tossed down the roadway, and now needs counseling and does poorly in school due to PTSD.

I'm not just making this up.  It has happened to people.  So that's one reason seatbelts are mandatory.

I imagine you would have been flying out of the windshield without one .But wasn't there so not going to state that as a fact .

The windshield stopped me from going through it. Regardless, my seatbelt shouldn't have broke.

Either:

1) Allow us to make poor decisions that may end up killing us by removing all laws that require one to wear a seatbelt and permitting people to freely buy/sell cigarettes

OR

2) Forbid us from making poor life/death decisions by requiring people to wear seatbelts and banning the sale of cigarettes.

Why is there a double standard with respect to these 2 issues?

Rand Paul fan? If so, been there done that.

1. Seatbelts mandated? Why? Because even if you don't give a shit about your own life, if you get hurt everyone's car insurance and medical insurance goes up.

Smoking? At what age? I started when I was 13, hate to tell you but back then, the tobacco companies WERE marketing to kids and especially minorities in poor communities.

Cowboys and Camels are hero images. Candy cigarettes were aimed at kids. The trend with alcohol now is to give beer and liquor colors and flavors aimed at youth too.

Now in Australia you can buy both booze and smokes STILL, but what they don't do is put adult products in the same store that a kid would be allowed in, not even beer.

Wtf you talking about? You can buy goon at every supermarket in Australia.
