We all are aware of what is going on.
But lets make a distinction in all this. Even if the "dirt" was local offered by another American, "politics is dirty" is not an argument. If you are a politician and someone offers you "dirt" even as an American citizen, it would still be ethical, at least to me, to insure that that product was not illegally obtained.
Just like in non politics, any pawn shop can get into a shitload of trouble for not recording the item bought or the person selling it. Receiving stolen property is a crime.
I could give a shit less if this was a fellow American offering Jr dirt. To not vet it to insure it was obtained legally is at best irresponsible. But the truth is, they didn't care how it was obtained and it does not matter they got nothing out of it.
It would be like handing a bank teller a note "this is a stick up" and the robber runs not taking anything, and the teller not pressing the button.
