Picking lampshades.

I'm not gay enough to get this right, so please help. Is there a ratio of diameter/height of lampshade to height of lamp? I won't be able to "size" them in the store. 

Serious question.

She gets off work at 2 am most days, not interested in shopping much. I cover as much ground as I can without bothering her.

Measure the height of the lamp from the base to the top of the bulb. Depending on how tall it is, clearly will depend on the type of lampshade you need. Take a pic and give me the dimensions of the lamp and I'll help you out.
Oh, and it also depends on the size and type of table you're putting it on.

Lampshade makers have to have some kind of formula for diameter versus height so they can fit lamps they will never see, right?
