Need help picking a gift. . .
October 6, 2013 at 9:24 pm
Right. . . Christmas is coming up and I need help picking a gift for my girlfriend.
Yes, the relationship is long distance, but that doesn't really make a difference to me. It might seem weird, but we're actually really close. . . I just want to give her something physical that she can remember me by.
I'm thinking a necklace or bracelet; we're not really at the ring stage yet. The issue is, jewelry is a foreign concept to me. I've never bought any before. . .Any suggestions or tips? (She keeps demanding that I don't spend much on her. . . but I'm not listening, so the amount I'm willing to spend is flexible.)
And before anyone warns me about the dangers of spending money on people over the internet (which has happened many times before), chill out. She didn't ask for anything, this is my idea.

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

Get a loose diamond/sapphire/etc. off of ebay* and have a jeweler make a setting for it. That makes it a thoughtful gift, which women eat up.
*You can often get good deals with some judicious shopping. A co-worker of mine had a loose stone appraised at over 4 grand...he paid less than fifty.

Hm, if you want her to wear it on a daily basis, be practical. Not too fancy, not too delicate, not too "special" so that it can go with everything she wears. I was given a gold bracelet once, it was really fine and delicate and it broke while I was in the gym. Something small and simple and nice, that's what I'd pick.
If you just want to give her something special, then you need to find out what she likes.
Oh and personal touch is always a big big plus.

What is her clothing style? Please include colors if you can :3
And some relevant interests would be good to know - such as, does she like/collect rocks and minerals, have some sort of appreciation for a certain era, etc
I take picking the right jewelry very seriously for some goddamn reason.

Haha, sure. She's a jeans and T-shirts kind of girl. She seems to like mostly cool colors. She prefers blue, her birthstone is pearl. I know she likes silver, as well. . . she's all contemporary styles.
O_o Huh, it's amazing how I didn't think of any of this stuff until you asked me about it. Lol, I need to think harder from now on.

Sounds like she might enjoy a pearl necklace. Cheaper than jewelry anyway...:p

This man, he knows his stuff.
On a serious note though, I'm usually NOT a jewelry guy, because for some reason it seems like a generic and predictable male to female gift. Ladies feel free to correct me on this.
However being it's long distance, I am all for it since it in this case since it will remind her of you whenever she wears it. I'd go for necklace or bracelet too. My limited advice would be keep it simple, nothing too gaudy or extraordinarily elegant. Silver, stones in the colors of her birth, favorite color, your birth or favorite color etc.

Check her out.
She really does, though. You could ask her about it.

Why not make a nice pendant yourself out of silver clay? It's quite easy and jewellery doesn't get more personal than that.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
