Kavanaugh Can Join Thomas.
RE: Kavanaugh Can Join Thomas.
(October 1, 2018 at 2:15 pm)Catholic_Lady Wrote: The political devisiveness over this issue is honestly super annoying. The side people take seem to all come down, at least in a lot of cases, to whether they are Republican or Democrat.

Can't we have some Republicans who believe she is telling the truth? Can't we have some Democrats who believe it is a possibility he is innocent due to honest mistaken identity? If the parties were switched, and this guy was a Democrat, and his accuser a Republican woman, would all the Democrats still believe he is guilty? Would all the Republicans still believe her account may not be 100% accurate?

Multiple women came forward accusing Bill Clinton of rape/sexual assault. And his wife, the most recent Democratic presidential candidate whom half of America voted for, defended her husband and silenced the women. Do the Democrats believe those women? Do the Republicans only believe them because they accused a Democrat?

And then we have Divinity on here blatantly saying "All Republicans are evil. All of them." ... and then getting a plethora of kudos for it. Seriously? Are we Democrat/Republican first, and human later?

I'm not a registered Republican, but I have voted for 2 Republicans in the past - McCain and Romney. I have yet to vote for a Democrat. Am I evil? Is my family evil for voting Republican? Are there not more dimensions to a person besides their political affiliation? No side wants to consider that the other side may just have a different way of looking at something, which doesn't automatically make them evil people. And no side wants to consider that maybe they themselves have their own moments of hypocrisy and bias.

This is beyond ridiculous. We should just have a civil war already and get it over with.
I do understand what you are trying to say here.  For instance, I know some conservatives who are very nice people, and some liberals who are stupid and cruel.

But in general, what do you think does define a person?  I think, like Dumbledore, I'm going to say what defines us is our choices (and by extension, our actions).

More and more, people are discovering that our political affiliations do in fact define us, because they very much embody the choices we are making.  Are we choosing to stand up for the poor and disenfranchised?  Are we choosing to line our own pockets at the expense of the common working folks?  Are we choosing to vote for better schools, infrastructure, healthcare for our neighbors as well as ourselves?  Or are we worrying only about what is best for our own families?  Do we want fairer prisons and beter rehabs, or do we not really care as long as we feel safer and don't have to see the homeless guys on the street?  It turns out there is quite a bit of science behind it, too. We can fairly accurately guess a persons politics by where they live, their education level, and how far they have traveled from the town they were raised in.

If someone supports policies that causes actual harm to living, breathing people, are we supposed to pass it off a "just politics"?

My point is, this isn't "just politics".  Politics affect real people, they have real consequences.  These are our defining choices that reach beyond if we are a good mother, a loyal friend, a stable husband.  They determine how people beyond our little monkeysphere will be treated.

It's disheartening to see the political war going on, and one side always trying to shut down the other.  But the honest truth is, only one side has been making any real attempt at bipartisan behavior for some number of years now, and after getting kicked to the curb each time they tried to extend a hand, they might be done extending the hand.  If one group of people is truly tolerant of everything, then the intolerant people will 100% destroy anything they try and create.  The Paradox of tolerance is a real problem.

It's a conundrum, for sure.

Nope i don't believe Clinton's accusers because their accusations don't add up it has nothing to do with parties (after all i'm Canadian and thus not a Democrat )

Too use a home example no fewer then 6 Liberal politicians in Canada have been accused of sexual assault i believed the accusers even though the politicians were left wing and wanted the party to kick them out and when they didn't vote Liberal.

You can be a good person who sides with evil and no when it comes to modern Republican party there is no"just a difference way at looking at something " and yes your political affiliation says a huge amount about a persons values and thus they can be judged on those values .

And even he doesn't seem to know the rules to a 'drinking game' called 'Devil's Triangle', and apparently neither does anyone else. It was seventies and eighties slang for a threesome with two straight men and one woman, though. Kavanaugh claimed (to a Senate Committee) that the first was a euphemism for farting and the second was a drinking game.

Funny thing is - I posted correct examples of these in this thread and it went on ignored by AM and his Trump supporters. Why? Because they knew Kavanaugh was clearly lying about those terms and they didn't have the balls to admit as much.

This is not a hypothetical.  I know men who were falsely accused by female employees. Fortunately they had strong alibi s and the women had histories of making false accusations.

ok, I know of at least one man who was falsely accused. But we're not talking about that here and that's not relevant at all. Whataboutism is weak as shit.
I know of nearly countless women who have been sexually assaulted and weren't believed or if they reported it to authorities, fuck-all happened. This includes myself. Again, not germane to this argument.
Ford's testimony was credible, and I am not willing to allow someone who could have committed sexual assault to preside over MY supreme court. You heard me, MINE. And yours, and every other American's. These people work for us, motherfucker, and I don't want anyone to forget this. This is not about partisanship, I know our republican senate will shoo in a conservative justice. It better not be this one, though. We saw it happen with Clarence Fuckin Thomas, this can't happen again.
Why is it acceptable to you not to at least investigate? Don't you want to know the truth? Or do you care? Maybe that's it, maybe you don't care if Kavanaugh did what Ford said he did. I have heard that from more people than I care to think about this week.

I'm glad it's not just me, I could think of almost nothing else while Kavanaugh was talking.

Do you think that we should just go on feelings and who our guts tell us is credible?  Why have judges at all then?  I think that you create straw men, and try to put words in other peoples mouths, because of a weak case, weak thinking skills, and a bunch of sheep that will applaud anything that fit's their identity politics.

Says the 'man' who believes Kavanaugh simply because he agrees with him politically.  And because you think it's okay what he did.  Because you have no problem with a man forcing himself on a girl.

Either you misread my post, or I didn't make myself clear enough. (The latter is far more likely  Blush ) I absolutely understand that it can be really daunting and scary to disclose sexual assault, even more so if the perpetrator is rich and privileged. I get it. The thing I find suspicious is that she disclosed it at the time when he is set to assume a position of great power, knowing full well that it may put a spanner in the works. I watched her testimony, and found it powerful and believable. I believe her. I just feel convinced that maybe it was the prospect of having someone she knew was capable of sexual assault, up there in a position of power as great as SCOTUS, that gave her the push she needed to actually come forward. In any case, I'm not saying that it makes her testimony any less legitimate or her claim any less worth looking into.
