Well, the original poster's writing isn't succient and the prose is terrible.
But the problem with this particular argument is that atheism is taboo and outside of the box. Atheists are continually backpeddaling and trying to explain away someone else's point of view. They never form their own. They are too concerned with disavowing religion to such an extent that they routinely neglict what they stand for. And at this point, it is pretty much nothing.
I read Hitchen's "God is Not Great" and I couldn't keep reading. Yeah yeah, we know why religion is BAD, but why is the lack of religion good? The guy is a moronic alcoholic, and appears to always will be.
This is why atheists don't have charities. They are too much on the defensive to form an ideology that they can bring to someone and say "Here, this is what we're about." That is the only real way to carry a message.

I can't speak for everyone, but I personally don't think there is something that atheists are "about." Therefore, it would seem a little ridiculous to come up with an ideology for a bunch of people who have one lack of belief in common. I don't have a message to carry, nor do many other atheists. We get enough of that shit from Christians.
As for the OP, I am not anti-theist, so I am not qualified to critique.

Why can't atheists be "about" something? Judiasm is about something, catholism is about something..., why can't aethism be about something?
There is no reason to only be about the faction of "no."
It all starts with the individual. What does the individual believe?

Religions are bad because:
1: They purport to have all the answers. If you look at the dark ages in Europe when everyone was deeply religious society stagnated. It the answer to anything is 'god did it' then there is no need to look further.
2: By invoking a 'higher power' they can make good people do bad things.
3: By setting out rather odd laws they lead to overcontrolling, punitive theocracies (see Iran, Iraq, Europe in the middle ages etc).
4: They are used as tools to dominate and control the masses.
5: They, by their nature artificially divide societies (look at sunni and shia muslims and nortern ireland).
6: They amplify insanity, google 'god made me kill' and see how many hits you get.
7: They are intrusive. They like to inflict their 'morals' on everybody else. Their views on homosexuality are aprticularly abhorant.
8: They are all very, very annoying.
Without religion you would not have all of the above.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Surely the lack of anything bad can be seen as a good thing :S

That's because atheism in not a religion, nor is it an ideology. It is simply the lack of a particular belief. There may be no atheist charities but there are plenty of charities run by atheists!

What do you mean by "About?" Do you mean "Can atheists stand for something?"? If so, the answer is, yes, they can. They can stand for lots and lots of things.... they can have any ideologies they like provided that those ideologies don't imply a belief in any gods.
Atheism, on the other hand, doesn't stand for anything. It is not an ideology, it is merely either absence of belief in god(s) (agnostic atheism) or positive believe that god(s) do not exist (gnostic atheism)...and Atheism is nothing more and nothing less than that.

How can you be an atheist and ask this question?
