Constitution of the New America.

Constitution of the New America.
WHAT. THE. FUCK. I kid you not, some right-wingers have actually decided to create a new constitution for America out of whole cloth, making a government that is overly intrusive in the wrong places, and not intrusive enough (like in how trials are conducted) in the wrong places. It's not just any Right-Wing Theocratic manifesto, it goes far beyond that. It's apparently a constitution by people who apparently didn't put that much thought into what they were writing. There are also people who like to spam this on forums randomly. The link is to a point-by-point response on RationalWiki.

Here in Australia, our constitution can only be changed by referendum.

The last one was in 1999, to see if Australians wanted to become a republic. The proposition was soundly defeated, exactly as it was designed, by the royalist conservative government of the day.

Quote:1999 Referendum Report and Statistics

The 1999 referendum was announced on 12 August 1999 in a joint statement by the Commonwealth Attorney-General, the Hon. Daryl Williams MP and the Special Minister of State, Senator the Hon. Chris Ellison.

They announced that two proposed constitutional changes would be put to the direct vote of Australian electors at a referendum to be held on 6 November 1999. The first change was whether Australian voters approved the proposal to establish Australia as a republic and the second change was whether they approved the proposal to insert a preamble in the Constitution.

Im surprised that the article linked appears to be replicated at the rational wiki, because I was honestly expecting this to be a blog on or reference from conservapedia.

Still...

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

I like the part where protestant Christianity is the only protected religious label.

Or this goody under Freedom of Speech:

I've got a friend in Holland who is always bitching that we should re-write the constitution. I'm going to send him this and tell him to STFU.

That might work with level-headed European voters. We American voters have such mood swings that if you gave us a parliamentary system, we'd have a new Prime Minster every two years. We'd give the Italians a run for their money as to who could have the least stable government. That's why we have a lot of "checks and balances" and other artificial stabilizers built into our government that put the breaks on changes. Our founders were wise enough to realize this. It's also probably why they established the tradition of locating State and Federal capitals in small towns, away from major population centers.
