Boru

When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, John Balushi won a Medal of Honor by dropping a hand grenade into the cockpit of a Mitsubishi zero from atop a ladder leaned against the window of a sorority house in the middle of Ford Island, thus killing the leader of the raid, admiral Hans Yamamoto, ensuring VE Day the next day.

Why no mention of Lizzy Bordon? I suppose that would take 40 posts?

Lizzie borden took an axe,
and gave Mussolini 40 whacks,
When she saw what she had done
She gave Hitler and Tojo forty one?

I missed 3 that I had no clue about.

Fascinating quiz.
If you have to lie to bolster your argument, it’s time to rethink the validity of the argument.

I missed some of the hard numbers, and the idiotic one about who lead the Nagumo Kido Butai.

This is different from what most sources say. Generally it's thought that about 150 soldiers were killed in the blast. Maybe your figure is including "mobilized" students, or some not-quite-soldier level people.

Nagasaki was the second choice target that day and even then the bomb was several kilometers away from the intended hypocenter.

Working without my notes, but I'm confident of the 5K number. "Most sources"?

BTW, the #1 hit show on the radio on this date was Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. A ventriloquist and his dummy. On the radio.

"Most sources" in this case would include the history books and the exhibits at the museum in Nagasaki. You could start with Wikipedia and follow their links.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bom...f_Nagasaki

If you were to count factory workers and mobilized students you could get 5000, but if you did the same methods of counting in Hiroshima it would exceed that number, making the first bomb a bigger "shot."

If you find your notes later and can point to some sources, I'd be interested to read them.

I may have confused Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it wasn't important enough for me to look it up.
