I loved the way that the entire two hour story had no use for Captain Mercer, straight white dude. He was just sort of there. And then at the end, the story finally had a use for the straight white guy-- he ordered the crew to the escape pods while he set the ship to blow up as he made a suicide run at the enemy ships. You know, because that's the one time that the world has a use for straight white dudes who totally understand toxic masculinity and can be counted on to get themselves blown up as needed.

I was kinda on the fence about that last comment of Yonadav, but then given the thorough nature of the show's content as being anti white males, his interpretation is in keeping with the theme, and is coherent in that context, and so I accept his interpretation, on the balance of probabilities.

I don't really see the show as anti white males. I see it as running a nakedly intersectional narrative with all of the subtlety of a sledgehammer. That straight white men have a naturally inferior understanding of things is the consequence of the nakedly intersectional narrative, and not necessarily the objective of it. My guess is that the writers are probably devotees of intersectionality and think that they are making it look good. I think that they are making it look comical in an unintentionally funny way.

I looked up the wiki page on intersectionality but can't really jibe your usage of the term with the introduction and am reluctant to read up on the whole page...could you please explain what you mean by the term?

Intersectionality is an ideology that borders on religion for some, and it is being taught on college campuses as inarguable truth. There is a certain amount of validity to it, but not when taken as far as it is by its adherents.
Imagine the straight white man's world as main street. Everyone knows main street. There is nothing about it that is not understood by those who don't live on mainstreet.
In America, black street intersects main street. Those who live on black street understand black street and main street. Those who live on main street don't understand black street, and are prone to misunderstanding things where black and main intersect.
The same thing for women street.
The same thing for gay street.
A black homosexual woman understands main, gay, and black streets.
The more intersections you have, the greater your understanding.
The more intersections you have, the more confusing your issues are to those who live on main street. If you are a black gay woman who is being discriminated against, is it because you are black, or because you are a woman, or because you are gay, or because of all of those? If you say that you are being discriminated against because you are a woman, then women who aren't gay or black can testify that they are being treated fairly. If because you are gay, then gay white women and gay black men can testify that they are being treated fairly. And so on.
People who have intersections understand more. Intersections give you wisdom. Most adherents of intersectionality will say that straight white men can't possibly have any of this wisdom, no matter what. Attempts to understand this wisdom do not confer any of it upon you. You can't understand what it is like to be black. You can't understand what it is like to be a woman. And you can't understand what it is like to be gay. But black people, women, and gay people can understand what it is like to be a straight white man, because they live in a straight white man's world.
Like I said earlier, there is a certain amount of validity to this perspective. But there is also a good deal of batshit crazy.

Quote:Intersectionality is represented as an analytic framework that attempts to identify how interlocking systems of power impact those who are most marginalized in society.[1] Intersectionality considers that various forms of social stratification, such as class, race, sexual orientation, age, religion, creed, disability and , do not exist separately from each other but are interwoven together. While the theory began as an exploration of the oppression of women of color within society, today the analysis is potentially applied to all social categories, including social identities usually seen as dominant when considered independently.

Editz, I found a youtube video for you to watch about intersectionality. It is done by The Factual Feminist. It's quite good.

Hi!
Thanks for the explanation if the term Yonadav.
Must admit to having not really even heard anything about it.
Not that I know if you can answer questions I regards to it but here are some things that puzzle me.
Why do/does/is every "Single white man (Male?) have 'The world as main street'." ?
Surly every single white man (Male?) would, in effect, live on 'Single white man (Male? Bloke?) street?
Then the intersection would be between 'Single black man (Male? Bloke?) street' and 'Single white man (Male? Bloke?) street' ?
Just asserting the single white males automatically 'Get' this thing cal 'Main street' needs some sort of justification, no?
