I mean, really. Brian is extraordinarily emotive, sure. However, whether onlinebiker intended it to be a bait and switch or not, this is a quite common analogy in the gun debate. It's not like Brian pulled the idea that this could be related out of his ass. He could be wrong, and this could be just a thread about cars. That's great, because this is a legitimate topic, but Brian's not making it up when he says he's seen this argument like a billion times. That said, I've also seen this gun thread like a billion times, and it gets reaaaallll boring, Bri.

Accusing people of bait and switch is a troll tactic. Trolls think they have seen bait and switch a lot because they count it as a hit every time they accuse someone of it, and never acknowledge their misses (misses are about 100%).  So if you've seen this tactic a lot, it probably just means that you've participated in a lot of trolling. The switch never happened in any of those discussions. But you don't remember that because our brains are always filling in missing information with our worldview.

It is how lots of marketing works. Even outside the issue of guns, or religion.

How many times have you gone to buy something only to get to the store to figure out the "advertisement" or "coupon" or "product" was not what it was cut out to be as advertised?

To say bait and switch on any topic never happens is delusional. 

Stage magic, and even NFL football are both based on misdirection. 

The woman is not really sawed in half. And flee flickers in the NFL are plays designed to fool the defense in order to  gain quick yardage or a score.

The problem with that premise is assumes "responsibility" is always on the buyer's/user's end. I don't agree with that one bit.

I do not find it ok to take advantage of others, or sell a product, ANY PRODUCT just because you can. 

"Magic" wasn't and still isn't always sold as an act. And even with the NFL, both teams players and fans, go in watching knowing it is about misdirection. The WWE which was once called the WWF however, sold itself as a real sport for a long time. It never was a sport. It was always a rigged act. Just like stage magic is. An illusion, an act. 

So again, if one wants to argue theft of property is the fault of the thief, you wont get any argument from me.

But if you are setting up the same argument that Adam and Eve are to blame for the product you made they had no say in setting up, sorry, that is a form of misdirection.
