"EZ" vs "GG" - gaming

"EZ" vs "GG" - gaming
This might get a little nerdy. But to be clear I'm talking about end of game challenge "salutes".

By "salutes" I mean what you quickly say to other players that shared in your victory before some other screen or event.

To be clear, I'm old. I'm 38. I normally say "GG" at the end of a successful match.

Increasingly I see "EZ" in response to my "GG" or before it.

To be clear, I understand this comes from Fortnight and Blizzard's Overwatch. As a "diss" that the game was so "easy" vs the other players. However it has grown beyond these specific games.

"EZ" doesn't have an acronym. It simply means "easy". "GG" is an acronym that means "Good Game".

That said has "EZ" grown beyond normal language rules and now means something else? Does it just mean "GG" since it's become so ubiquitous?

Do those that use it have no idea of former gaming acronyms or that implying that a match was "easy" is an insult to those that participated?

I’m always and always have been a GG player, for 20 years.

Trash talking is part of the game I guess but I always leave a GG. FWIW people were using iterations of EZ decades ago even back in things like Age of Empires 2 in the 90s (when I first started online gaming). I didn’t like it then and i wouldn’t partake in it now.

My 16 year old knows what Gg stands for and typically uses “gg fam”. I think an uptick in ez usage is symbolic of more arrogant and younger trash talkers.

Meh, saying GG before game ends is same as saying EZ after game ends. In fact it can be more arrogant in a way... but, the thing is, all massively popular games act as an outlet for toxic frustrations, and it's pointless to expect respect or even decent manners from most of your teammates unless you know each other in real life.

GG and GLHF all the way here.

This is why I appreciate the FFXIV community—sure the elites still exist, but the majority of the community is eager to help and would rather work for a solution to wiping in a raid/dungeon as opposed to insulting others and rage quitting.

I've never heard EZ but I play Fortnite StW mainly and always type GG at the end if it's been an exceptional mission with exceptional players, but otherwise just don't type anything, since typing anything with a PS4 controller is not that easy... though granted much easier for typing GG.
