Death Penalty
#11
RE: Death Penalty
At work.

It's the sort of thing that's a tad final.

If the powers that be fek it up? It's not like they can kiss it better and make up.

Once the person's been 'Offed'. They're off.

Now Convict labouring. That's a coversation I can get behind.

RE: Death Penalty
I'm generally against it. There are some people that I would have cheerfully stuck the needle in their arm myself. But still, I'm against the death penalty. We sometimes put a person on death row who is innocent, and I don't think the death penalty is justified if it means that we will sometimes execute an innocent person. Additionally, the rules about who gets the death penalty and who doesn't aren't entirely clear. We seem to be far more likely to sentence black people to death.
We do not inherit the world from our parents. We borrow it from our children.

The numbers aren't hugely different, though.  Line up ten protestants and ten "don't give a shits" and you might get one more person saying no in the latter camp.

 Intentionally a bit vague.

 I'd pay to see that.

I guess you're aware the biggest bloke in the yard is probably something in the neighbourhood of a 300 pound biker called "tree trunk" (due to girth and intellect)

As far as i know, the US already has a multi million dollar industry based on convict labour.

I'm fine with that, although I think they should be paid more so they can then pay for their keep, clothing, medical care etc etc.. My understanding of criminology 101 is that people are sent to prison AS punishment, not to BE punished

If you intentionally go out of your way to harm another human just because, then as far as I am concerned, you forfeit your right to be considered a human being. Fuck You! Pay The Price!

If society would put a dog down for attacking a human, then certainly a creature of such exalted intellect, should know better, and if not, should be treated as such!

I have absolutely no pity for anyone that belongs on death row!

Try reading the sentence before it for some context.

I oppose the death penalty on principle, not emotion.

I see no reason to think that "against the death penalty" = "more compassion."

Compassion is a rare and fragile thing, obviously in short supply in the world today. It's not a solid base for moral decisions.

As an atheist I can honestly say I support the death penalty for certain crimes and in certain circumstances.

I'm against the death penalty for all crimes and in all circumstances, but it's got nothing to do with compassion.

I am against the death penalty. The state should not have the right to kill except in self-defense or the defense of others. Once someone is handcuffed and put in a cell then killing them is murder.

I'm opposed to the death penalty because innocent people are also executed as a result.
Too high a price to pay, IMO.
