Yes, I’m sure the cats would rather not be fixed but, as has already been stated, certain procedures have a direct benefit to the cat’s welfare, whereas declawing does not.
A cat not being dropped off at the pound - for repeatedly destroying furniture - because it got declawed probably is better off than the cat that dies at the pound....
Cats are capable of learning what they can and can’t do. All it takes is the patience many prople aren’t prepared to commit to.

Jesus.. I just read that... I gotta quit trying to cook dinner and post at the same time...
Reiterate -
If you have a cat that repeatedly destroys expensive furniture - is the cat better off declawed, or taken to the pound - to take it' s chances on a person coming along who loves cats and hates furniture?

Never been clawed by a neurotic tom cat, I see.
I don’t have any toms, mine are all fixed.
I have been clawed by many cats, almost always accidentally or when I’m playing with them.
That’s no reason to cripple them.

Capable and willing are two different things. I had one that was a warrior, always attacking cats, dogs, and people. I finally found him a good home, in Yellow Knife.

Then they shouldn't get a cat in the first place.
What are they going to do if their cat gets sick with something that requires expensive treatment?

Let it die. Pets aren’t children. My beagle got hit by a car yesterday. We didn’t rush to the er. I took her down to the creek, told her she was a good girl, and then I blew her head off.
She’s buried better than I’m likely to be, since it would be illegal to bury me the way I lovingly buried her. Pets are property, not people.

Spending outrageous money trying to extend the life of a pet is mental. It is not virtuous

I've done the same with a dog of mine - that got cancer - got treatment at the state vet school ( quite inexpensive really) - and she didnt respond to treatment.
She got a bite of venison and 10 shots rapid to the back of the head. Quick and painless as possible.
