"Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Here we have Country dwelling Dad 'n' Dave.

Dave has just gotten married to the delightful Debbie, who still has most of her own teeth

The morning after the wedding, Dave does to Dad in tears.  " Dad, last light I found out Debbie is a VIRGIN!"

Dad says: " Now don't you worry son, you can take her right back. If she ain't good enough for her own kin, she ain't good enough for us!"

Seems the legend of inbreeding in the Appalachians isn't entirely legend. Recently came across a study. These people are known as blue Fugates, and they live in Kentucky. Their skin is blue due to inbreeding, which I find fascinating, as apparently do some geneticists.

Apparently, inbreeding in the US is most common in the South Western sates of the country.

"The Fugates, a family that lived in the hills of Kentucky, commonly known as the "Blue Fugates"[1] or the "Blue People of Kentucky", are notable for having been carriers of a genetic trait that led to the blood disorder , which causes the appearance of blue-tinged skin.
