I have what I call "The Hassle Factor" that emerges whenever I have some unpleasant task that needs doing. The value varies, depending on the task, and the older I get, the larger value that factor represents. It hasn't reached maximum value for every task, yet, but I can see the day when it will look a lot like a sideways eight for pretty much everything. I'm "only" 65, but the Hassle Factor has already maximized for plumbing, house painting, cleaning toilets and car repair.
I'm "only" 69, and I had a plumber come out for a stopped up drain. My arthritic back just can't take the bending and twisting that is required, anymore. More than happy to pay a plumber, especially on drains. We're having our rental house painted. We can write off the expense and the rent pays for the work. That is sweet. Our house needs a new roof; no way in hell I'm doing it. I will, however, put an engine in our old truck. That's not all that difficult, it will just take me time, once I find a place to do it. Can't do it in our driveway, and I don't want to do it in the street, which I have done with several vehicles in the past. Though the longer it takes to find a place, the less ambitious I get about it. It has a big block Chevrolet 402 cubic engine presently; I'm looking for a 454 cubic engine to replace it with, for a little more torque for towing.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I empathise.
Not allowed on ladders any more, so need to get people in to do a whole bunch of things I would once have done myself. I've found it hard to accept that I can no longer physically do a lot of things. Later today I'm going outside to bud the roses. I can just about manage that.
Two years ago I replaced my Camry with a Mazda 2 jellybean, 1400cc. The Camry had become to big and I no longer felt comfortable driving it. I really want to stay in my house as long as I can. However, there is strong possibility I'll lose my licence before then. I will then sell the car, and put the money in a special account which I will use for Taxis.
Right now, I don't mind being old all that much. Probably because the person inside is still about 25 and avoids mirrors.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Not me. I haven't forgotten anything.
Far from convinced that either Yeshua bar Yusuf and his putative mother Miriam were real people. Also willing to bet they would not have looked odd or unusual to other firsts century Judeans. IE probably quite short, with dark skin, hair and eyes. Possibly with prominent proboscides. Miriam may have had a visible moustache.

Yeah.
We were taught there was nothing all that unusual about a young Jewish virgin being impregnated by god . So of course Yusuf simply believed her rather than having her stoned for adultery, with him hurling the first rock.
Of course one needs to realise that Christianity introduced no new ideas, no new theology and no new morality. Putting it as simply as I can; Jesus was meant to return, pretty much straight away. That idea was fundamental to the new religion initially called "The Way". When Jesus didn't turn up, Christianity became just another failed millenarian movement. By that time too many church leaders had too much to lose. So the idea of the imminent return of Jesus was changed to some indeterminate time in the future and quietly dropped. Today it's only the literalists who insist Jesus' return will be soon.

Fascinating. I think he's a cunt.
Well, you're entitled to your opinion, man. But so am I.
My opinion? Ricky Gervais is not a cunt.
I wonder what it is that you don't like about him. He's an atheist and a critical thinker. His comedy can be "meh"... but that's just the nature of comedy. With two or three significant exceptions (timeless performances), even half of Carlin's sets are "meh."

Mea Culpa. I don't find his sardonic humour very funny. Nor do I like comic grotesques, such as David Brent.
Didn't mean to give the impression that anyone else should think as I do. Simply giving an honest opinion. So, we may agree to differ

It's cool. As I said, you're entitled to your opinion. I just didn't think that'd be your opinion. But I kinda get it. I like Gervais's stand up. But I didn't really dig An Idiot Abroad and other things he's done. So yeah...

There was a guy "purer" than Jesus
