So holy water can beat devils and demons but not microbes?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Holy water is strange, I would like to see a Holy god-botherer show how he can detect the difference between two bottles of water, one plain water and the other Holy water.

It's pretty simple, actually. You pour out both bottles. The holy water is the puddle in which you pretend you can see the face of Jesus.

When I was a kid one of my grandmothers had a little holy water font mounted on the door jam of the bedroom at the top of the stairs. I don't recall exactly what it looked like but I do remember there being a small bit of sponge in the basin part of it. I know I was a little disappointed when I saw her fill it from a non-descript little plastic bottle. At that young age I expected it to be more fancy than that. It was, after all, God Water.
The idea was that everyone was to moisten a fingertip and cross themselves on their was to bed. I'd guess you were supposed to do the same in the morning before going downstairs.
Even as I child I thought the whole thing was a little silly and wondered how you knew the water in that little bottle was special water.
I do find it interesting that faith has its limits...the 'healing' water at Lourdes are off limits and now no holy water in churches. I guess the myths remain as long as there isn't a real threat.

Exactly. Franklin, responding to criticisms that his lightning rods were an attempt to thwart the hand of God, wondered why it was perfectly alright to built a roof to keep out the rain, but blasphemous to put an iron rod on that roof to keep out the lightning.

What is also strange about holy water is that Vatican believes that what ever room the Pope walks in all water in that room becomes holy, so reporters are not allowed to have water bottles in conference rooms with Pope.
So when the Pope sits on the toilet he shits into the holy water, or maybe it is too sacred for Pope to shit in a holy water so an altar boy pushes his small hand into Pope's asshole, grabs the turd and pulls it out so that no water gets involved.
And speaking about altar boys

Boru And how long until the churches stole his idea "just in case."
