"Laughing At Religion" Meme Thread

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The scary thing is, it isn't a story about God. It's a story about ruthless people who used the idea of God to excuse their ruthlessness. It's so funny that the Christians have a teaching in their holy book about wolves in sheep's clothing.

Talk about a complete lack of self awareness.

I was always amused that Jesus is depicted as a shepherd and his followers as sheep. Doesn't anyone know what happens to sheep?

They either get fleeced or they become dinner. or both.

^I used to live in a rural area where sheep were herded through on a yearly basis. The shepherds slept in trailers that were towed to the next sleeping destination. When I was in high school, one of my friends told me about seeing one of those shepherds pushing a sheep into his trailer.  Naughty
